528000 km (330,000 miles) w/ the same engine in 18 years.
40000 km with the same tires !
Only the clutch has been changed once.

I don't think that anyone over here says the 2.5 is weak. It's awesome that you've gotten over 300K out of that bad lad though.
It is not me ...
That's a sweet article. I get that it's about the mileage, but what all does it say?
I've never heard they were weak. In fact when I was doing my research prior to buying my Daytona IROC all I found were comments about how reliable they were.
Sorry,
I didn't want to say someone wrote these engines were weak, it is quite common to write this in French.
The article says that he bought the car new and he has never had a problem. Every thing works like new and even the leather seats are in great shape. He drives smoothly and do what chrysler has written in the manual.
He was invited by the Chrysler garage where he bought the car in Belgium.
That's awesome. I bet they didn't sell too many 2.2/2.5 cars in Europe at all.
The weakness comes from the ring lands being so much thinner and closer to the top of the piston than a 2.2 is. So if you run lean or crank the boost and run lean and have some detonation you have more of a chance of busting a ring land on a 2.5 than a 2.2 on stock pistons. A stock engine that's been well kept and driven nicely for years will go for years. When people like us start upping the boost and those that aren't watching a/f's and timing is when the problems start to occur.
True that it will see more heat, but if one opened up ring gaps on factory Mahles like most people do with forged pistons, you would see less cracked ring lands. On the other hand, higher ring pak is worth my HP than lower 2.2's. 2.5's did suffer from a lot more piston slap than 2.2's, due to much higher rod angularity. My 2.5 Shadow went 285K before the car rusted away.
I'd have to say the vehicle in article was driven pretty easy or lots of interstate driving. Only on second clutch in 330K miles! My buddy got 155K out of his 86 GLHT clutch. I thought he was doing great.

found this car on copart.com
399,000 miles and it looked like it was still pretty mint when it was wrecked, nice paint too
I had an acclaim with 255k on it once. Never in the shop for anything.
wherever says something about about 150k being high i tell them its basically still new, high miles is 250k
Nice article!
I recall being at an oil change place with a friend while his Escort's oil was changed, bored in the waiting room saw a bulletin board with the "high mile" club and it had a couple taxicabs with close to a million miles on them! Semi Trucks DO get millions of miles.... it sometimes just comes down to maintenance and care to make a car last

There's a '64-ish Dodge in a museum somewhere that has 1 million miles on it, was a taxi cab in NYC. I think I saw it on Allpar, had been through 3 engines and 2 trannies lol.

A man has got to know his limitations.....
2.5L all the way as far as I'm concerned. I drive my cars on the street 99.9% of the time. The fun and confidence that the 2.5L inspires is hard to beat. I wouldn't have two 2.5L TIII builds in the works if I didn't believe it. 2.5L + DOHC = poundage. Let the zombie apocalypse begin.
