    Valve stem seals

How hard is it to replace them? Pretty sure my car needs it. Starting to smoke more on start up and this afternoon was even smoking a little leaving a stop light off idle. If motor is warm and only shut down for a few minutes it seems to smoke more than if it sits overnight.

It's not too bad. You'll need a valve spring compressor and some way to stop the valves from dropping down into the chamber.

I've got a home made valve spring compressor given to me by previous owner. Just have to figure out how I'm going to keep valve from dropping. Probably just use the rope trick.

That's how I would do it. I've also read that the trick setup for seals is to use 1999-2000 GM LS seals. Felpro #SS 70495. That will actually give you two sets(for our cars). I haven't personally tried it yet. I think I need to replace mine as well. I may go this route. You will end up with a spare set of seals, but you can buy the LS kit for about the same as the factory style seals.

Anybody here tried these? I've read on the other forum that these are far superior to our factory umbrella style seals.

Air compressor is easier. Take a compression tester hose, take out its valve (save it, do not lose it, bike valve is different), screw into the plug hole, connect the other end to a air compressor.

Yeah would be easier if I had an air compressor at my disposal to use.

I've used the rope trick on a few cars. It works pretty well.
