    Battery relocation fuse info

Car is a srt swapped 1st gen and the po has the battery in the trunk but I'd like an inline fuse just in case something were to rub thru.

Would these work they are McMaster Carr numbers

Not running a kill switch on this car or anything like that just want it a little safer then it is now. Got a red top and replaced the original battery. If this wont work let me know. I read some of rbryants info on this subject but the links and such seem to be dead.

The biggest amp draw is the starter. Put an amp clamp on the starter cable and see what it pulls. Then you'll know what size fuse to use.

From the research I read on here 150 amp would work but 200 amp would be better just wanna make sure I get the right kind because the first second the amp draw spikes to like 400 amps then settles out.

You can get slow blow fuses that will ride out the start-up surges. Size the fuse for the steady current draw.

If you want to be cheap, ford in the 90's came with a mega fuse like you showed, rated at 175 amps.
It was used for the alternator, and is usually attached to the fuse box or near the battery.

I want a whole setup with a fuse and a box for it to go in ideally so it's clean and out of the elements

That's what I figured. I just thought you could grab some of those fuses at a JY for next to or for nothing and then get the box you linked from mcmaster carr

they should be same style. The box u linked to says for meg fuses which I assume are the same as the mega fuses that ford used. Try a Google search for mega fuse and check out the images. Buying them new is fine. I just thought you might want to consider a JY option

I always consider the jy option but also the time over money option these days. It's tough finding time anymore.

    Re: Battery relocation fuse info

Quite understandable. Maybe order what u want new, and next time you are at the JY, pick up spares. $6 a piece new, but you know you need at least 2, need a spare. So there's $12. I agree time is valuable. I sometimes prefer ordering things online instead of shopping around town because it's just easier. I have ordered stuff dirt cheap from China and had it at my door in 4 days. Just thought you and anyone else who reads this would like to know another option for mega fuses.

    Re: Battery relocation fuse info

Never had a problem with my 100A breaker. I use it to kill power when the car sits as some systems like the boost controller pull a lot of power with their memory functions.
