    Re: 1989 Horizon Masi project

I have one of the preproduction heads in my garage. I will have to go take a look at it and see if it's any different than production. I think there were a lot of different preproduction/prototype heads though. Some of them N/A.

EDIT: I just looked at the pre-production head I have and the combustion chamber appears to be identical to every other Masi 16v head I have here. Lots of strange stuff out there though...

I've seen a couple of the pre-production heads that Rick has...I don't recall any of them having a flat chamber on the head.

Not that it's impossible, but due to the inclusion angle of the valves, I don't think any of them would have a flat chamber.

    Re: 1989 Horizon Masi project

Some more progress here, got my fuel rail figured out with mounting bolts into the masi intake bosses. Started welding the Horizon rail flanges together for strength and came up with an idea for bracing to the double wall firewall with aluminum. I'm going to diagonal brace from that aluminum to the strut towers later. The aluminum angle I used also has an adhesive body caulk under it so it will become one with the car after it dries. Got my trans back from Jackson and it looks great! 568 with quaife sand blasted, painted, brackets powdercoated, bronze shift pads, seals, and a few synchros.

I have seen those pictures! Really an involved job you have there. How do you fire the additional injectors off, are they just 8 small injectors fired together or does the second set come on in boost?

old skool HKS AIC IV. Can set it to come on by boost level or RPM's or a blending of both. Keep in mind that build was done BEFORE custom cals/injector scaling for giant injectors. I don't use the four additional Inj anymore.

I'm new to EFI but just looked up that system, looks like some people are using it still. I would imagine it wouldn't work well with temperature changes or altitude differences. I'm lucky to be 30 minutes from Rob shelgame, he set me up with an sbec and cord that he will tune on the fly from the passenger seat this summer.

Here is the cylinder head on ebay, the guy is not very pleasant to deal with when I tried negotiating with him before it was listed on ebay. I basically cut a deal that we agreed too then he listed it in pieces on ebay after...he has the fuel rail and some other stuff overpriced on there too. I think the best one is the distributor for $269, hahaha

    Re: 1989 Horizon Masi project

You passed at 899. complete? Smoking deal *if* you need one, if you already have one (or 5) well then its just another 900. spent.

EDIT: Wow that seller has 12,000 auctions going, and at least three TC's. a yellow 16V, a Red 16V, and a really thrashed red SOHC. $1000. per seat? Yeah, he's reaching a bit...

    Re: 1989 Horizon Masi project

I didn't pass, we agreed to a price before ebay and I was ready to pay then he ignored me afterwards and listed it all separated. I found him on ebay and inquired if he had any 16 valve parts, this was before anything was listed and it was still on the car. I guess its a complete head without a valve cover or thermostat or any other parts needed to make another engine. This may be suited for someone with a complete motor already.

    Re: 1989 Horizon Masi project

Man, that head is possibly worse off than my spare head that needs some repair work. Is it worth $900? Nope. $600...yeah, I could see that. Considering the only parts I can see on the head that aren't damaged in some way are the cams, cam gears, and valve buckets/shims. You's get the bare head basically for "free" at that price, which I think would be fair since most likely ALL of the valves, valve seats, valve guides, valve springs are going to need replaced. You don't get the valve cover. He ripped the valve cover gasket (dumb@ss). The thermostat housing isn't included. He thinks his sh*t is made of gold. Too bad because either somebody is going to pay for a total pile, or it's going to end up being recycled.

it is nice that head came from a rust free non smoker car.... But does anyone know where I can get a spare head for my Red car.. I am not sure one from a yellow car will work.

Waiting to get a mig welder over here so I can weld the body to the frame. Galvanized metal doesn't weld well with a tig..., I have another question, can offset cam keys be used on a masi head to degree the cams instead of the adjustable sprockets?

I wouldn't see a problem with that as long as you can find an offset key with the right keyway dimensions.

    Re: 1989 Horizon Masi project

I can't say for 100% because I never checked, but I'm pretty sure the keyways are the same as 8V keys. If this is the case, then the offset keys that work with the 8V engines would work for the Masi.
