    1989 CSX #205 Restoration

I'm officially starting the restoration thread for my 89 CSX. I will probably be getting things gone through mechanically before SDAC 24 and then will start the "Frame off" restoration after my shop gets finished. Last weekend i pulled the Motor/trans and am rebuilding the trans now. I probably won't get the motor built by then but will stuff one of the spare 2.2's I have here in when it goes back in. I spent some time degreasing the engine bay and K-frame.

I'm sure I will need to work on the engine bay wire harness and relay locations. The PO had installed an alarm system and moved/bent some of the relays so I'm going to need to clean those up and get them in the correct location.

Some did Some didn't, I already have two plus a few for other models. Also got one of steve's remade underhood stickers. I'm going to keep the turbo hood that's on it now and find a standard hood to do up also. The car also has Koni's on the front which I guess is a period correct upgrade.

Started re-taping the wiring last night
    Original

    RE-Taped

I need to pick up some of the 3/8 split loom as I'm all out of that to finish this side up. My fingers are pretty sore so I may wait until next weekend to do the other side. Then onto the rust from the battery acid.

I have a bunch I've taken at the last few SDAC's but if i need anything specific i'll definitely ask. One thing that seems to vary from the cars I've seen is how the front and rear ground effects attach. Most seem to use some sort of plastic christmas tree, push pin, ect.. What does yours have?

How do the front marker lights attach? I pulled the left front when doing the wiring cleanup and it has philips head screws that didn't seem to fit right. Do they use the torx screws like the daytonas?

A lot of the odds and ends on the interior have been painted red or gold. Luckily I can scrape the red off without damaging the part underneath. I bead blasted the wiper nut caps to get the gold paint off and put some armorall on it to shine it back up. anyone else have anything they use to get the shine back into plastic parts like this? I was thinking of trying something like Wipe New on the TV infomercials but want to find out if there is something someone has had experience with.

Thanks Alan. I have been writing down a bunch of questions over the last couple of weeks. I plan to call him and talk about the car soon. There's just so much to ask I hardly know where to start.

We use wipe new A LOT at work. It really works well and does wonders on old/sun faded plastic. We use it on door panels, dash panels, bumper covers, etc. Car looks, an 89 csx is my dream turbo dodge!

Yep the 89 CSX is my favorite of the Shelby Dodges. I had originally planned to have the car completely restored by SDAC24 but life happens and I don't want to rush it. The restoration will start after SDAC and may take a few years.

    Re: 1989 CSX #205 Restoration

Since I'm not going to have time to do a complete restore to the quality I want before SDAC I decided to clean up the existing paint as best I could. I wet sanded with 2000 as far as i felt safe without sanding through. was able to get a decent amount of the pitting out. Then buffed with a turbo cut, finish cut, 3M perfect it III and then some wax. drives side and trunk lid are done. need to do the other side, roof, hood, bumpers and grill. Cleaned up front suspension also.

Wow, what a difference. Keep up the good work Benji. I'm going to be pumped to see all of these CSXs at SDAC this year.

    Re: 1989 CSX #205 Restoration

How does the spoiler attach to the trunk lid mine was almost falling off when I got it so I took it off right away. I'm assuming is has acorn nuts on the back side but I wanted to make sure. I need to install new studs in the wing also. I've always picked them up at the hardware store and used a standard thread on the daytonas. Are these metric from the factory?
