Hot rod season is officially over. Now its time to get back to building for next year. I took an old Jeep 4.0 manifold and cut off one of the header tubes. The factory stepped the pipe up about 4 inches from the flange. I turned it around backwards and welded it to my wastegate flange. Now I just need to patch in the small area that's left and port it out nice and smooth.

That's funny, as yours ends, ours begins and visa versa. I should be racing right now but I've probably still got a month to go before I can hit the track from buttoning up my summer time upgrades. I'm hoping with my AC cooled intercooler and larger '95 Caravan radiator I can race in the summer now. Unfortunately for you, there's nothing you can do about snow on the track to extend your racing season.
Finally getting back to working on the car. I have been gathering parts for the "annual" spring upgrade. I have had the TU exhaust manifold for a few months now.
I've decided that since its so much work to change it out I will just go ahead and upgrade the turbo too. So now everything on the exhaust side will pretty much be replaced with bigger, better flowing parts. Of course getting a new turbo opened up a few possibilities too. I didn't want to go too big since this is my summer driver so I went with a TU T04E T3/T4 hybrid with a 46 trim compressor wheel and I will use my .63 turbine housing. That along with my custom swing valve should potentially flow more hp than I plan to make with this car. Here are a few pictures.
First up is the new turbo. I laid it next to a TII turbo (maybe a super 60?) just for comparison.
Looks fantastic. Minorly bummed to see you ditching the .48 housing but thats a completely selfish feeling on my part. I'm sure you'll be happy with this setup. Should be capable of low 11s or better on boost alone if you want to push it that far.
Dont push the red button. You hear me?
Looks good. Can hardly wait for you to get to a track and finally see what all of your modds are Really capable of!

Thanks guys! I'm hoping for high 11's without nitrous. Pretty sure I will get to take it to run the 1/8 as that is the only drag track we have in the state. If all goes well I might get to take it to a 1/4 mile track in Pa or Md later on in the summer. Still trying to get the down pipe parts ready for the switch over hopefully in late March or early April. Yesterday I started on the collector that goes at the bottom of the flex pipes. Tried to keep the flow as smooth as possible putting the 3 inch and 1.5 inch pipes back into just a 3 inch exhaust. Lots more welding and grinding required.
It's definitely a form-follows-function piece but it should work.
forcefedmopar here ran high 11s in an omni with just an s60 turbo which is not much bigger than the stock T3. Pretty sure Shadow was involved with or built a car that ran low 11s with a 46 trim. I think there is more potential in the turbo then you're admitting to, especially with a good discharge section bolted to it. Your car is probably slightly heavy compared to the typical 'fast omni' but even so, i doubt you will max the setup at high 11s.

Finally got it all tacked together very close to its final shape. I know it looks like a Jarvik heart for an elephant but I'm confident it will flow much better than a stock setup. With a cutout at the bottom of this I really don't see any measureable amount of restriction taking place after the turbo.
What are you going to do about the Nasty shoulder that will be inside of that mandrel 90 where it meets with the flex joint?

I swelled the flex joint end till it was a tight fit into the elbow. Then I knife edged the two layers of the flex joint end by tapering it to the outside so nothing really sticks into the exhaust flow path. The elbow is a 3.5 inch od piece. I tried a 3 inch elbow but it just looked too small so I moved up to the 3.5 inch one and that made it fit on the outside of the 3 inch flex joint.
Am I NOT subscribed to this thread?!! SERIOUSLY? lol
Hi Randy.
I don't know how I missed ya over here, but I'm in now.
Keep it up my friend; GREAT stuff.
Hey Donnie! I post about the same stuff on here as I do on TD and WVstreets. However if someone asks a question I pretty much only give the answer on the forum it was asked on.
