1st time SBEC chip burning question

I have a '90 SBEC that I socketed. I need to burn a chip for it with the same cal that's on the chip I removed. Some legs broke off of the original so I can't use the chip I removed so I have to burn a new one. I need to know what the offset is. For the SMEC it's 8000, for the LM I think it's c0000. I've never done a SBEC so I need to know. Thanks.

What size cal file are you going to burn? That's what determines the offset.

Whatever the stock calibration was. I think there are enough of the broken legs left to grab with the ziff socket to read it and then write it. Or I can take it from the code repository. It's a 1990 2.5 T-I automatic.

If you can't get to the legs with the Zif socket, you could bend them out and make the connections with some alligator clips etc. It's been forever, but I thought that the stock SBEC cals took up the whole chip? If that's the case then there is no offset needed.

A stock SBEC cal on a stock SBEC doesn't need an offset. The cal and chip are the same size.

I forgot the chip at my shop so I tried one from the cal repository, 90_25_T1_atx_577.zip to be exact, and it didn't work. Not so much as an ASD power up. I'll copy the chip I pulled and burn it tomorrow with no offset and see what happens.

Did you ensure that the chip was blank before you attempted to burn it. The stock chips need to be erased before they can be used, even if new.

What chip are you trying to burn the cal to? An SBEC only uses an 87c257. The 27cXXX won't work without a latch board.

Yes I erased it to ensure it was blank.

Au contraire! That latch adapter is about to make your life way better than before. Nothing is worse than burning the stock SBEC chips IMO.
