Thumbs up Saving Shelby GLHS 058

Okay its official I bought Shelby 058 from Simon drove up to San Fran and picked up the car saturday. had been in the same out side storage yard for 3-4 years. Im not sure is 58 really wanted to be saved it fought me at every turn. First the storage yard said we dont have the keys. Simon had never actually touched the car it was in storage when he bough it sight un seen except for photos. He did have a member look at it for him. Once he bought it the storage yard moved ti to a new spot and it sat again. It does have a salvage title drivers quarter was hit insurance said total loss and who ever owned it had the quarter replaced they did a great job all steel no filler. HERE are some pictures bring 58 home to San Pedro.Attachment 48254Attachment 48255Attachment 48256Attachment 48257Attachment 48253Attachment 48254Attachment 48258Attachment 48259Attachment 48260Attachment 48259Attachment 48261Attachment 48262Attachment 48263Attachment 48264Attachment 48265Attachment 48266Attachment 48267

I am installing the 4 bolt main common block G head large valve 2.2 I built for Shelby 924 with a 568 and OBX and a GT35 with header / with Brian Slowe moly cage. Shelby 924 is being semi restored for my brother 300 HP common block and T3/T4 turbo painted and restripped and using the 555 from 058 he bought it in 92 and wants it back. Also the rear louvers and other small stuff off 058. I wanna be the Left coast 10 second 5 spd.

Well for So Cal Ugly Old Omni runs mid 11s or 7.5-6 1/8 mile I have run 7.2 on the 1/8th mile. In my Charger Shelby924. But now that cars going back to my brother and Im going more serious full race. I would like to see very Low 10s with this car Shelby Charger 58. We will see. I was using a GT30 before at 32 PSI and a ported Swirl Head +1 valve. My G head has Max size valves they almost touch and very Large Ports. With the GT35 this thing should really move.Click image for larger version.

Very cool. I remember reading the King of Cheap Speed article years ago. I'll be anxious to follow this build as well.

Lynn I'll look out in my shop (can't remember if I threw them away or not) but I used to have all the rubber pieces that went under the nose that covered the headlights, and directed air through the rad etc. They used to be out there but I did some major cleaning this fall and they might of gone out with the other stuff. That is if you need/want it.

Did you try any of your other keys yet? Between all of mine I usually have one that will work.

Yes I have 6 different keys but there are 1000 different keys so 16 dollars sounded very good to me.

Are there really 1000 different keys? I always thought that there were about 12.

Each notch in a key is a different number. Typically 1 through 6. So yeah there are way more than 12. So say you have numbers 135224. That would be your code for the cylinders.

Wow, I should play the lottery more often. Although I think it's probably more a function of wear in the cylinders and keys.

Yes. The cylinders break/wear out. I had a friend that has a 89 Turbo minivan and any key pretty much can open up the drivers door. There are also springs inside the cylinders. They wear out and that causes it as well.

Lynn, found what I had. They go in the nose I think on the sides to push air to the rad and the thin long one on the bottom? Someone more familiar with the 2 door L's can probably tell you if you don't know already. They're in good shape, no tears in the push pin holes or anywhere else that I could see, A good washing and some armorall should have them looking like new again. If ya want them let me know, if not no biggie, was just throwing them out there.

I'm pretty sure the long one goes on the hood. I pulled all that stuff the day I got my car back to TN.
