Yes, they are 70 fenders, I had to modify them quite a bit. The gill slots were welded in and the front headlight can area has to be worked over.

Did you modify them to keep the original parts or were '71 repros too expensive? I didn't know they weren't totally interchangeable LOL. I thought all they did was add the gills to the '70 fenders and called it good! LOL
Definitely a money saving decision. The re-manufactured 71 fenders are close to $2000 per set, and my 70 fenders were in good shape to start with. When they went to the dual headlights in 71 for some reason they set them further back in the fender. So all the modification was for that reason. It's really not too difficult of a process, its just far more difficult to find info online for muscle car era projects. Not too many people in that age range that are computer savvy enough to do writ-ups and take pictures to post in forums.

Please don't take this as a stab but why not go to the trouble to put 71 tail lights in it? I had a 70 Vitamin C 340 Cuda in high school and always wished it were a 71. I love the way you went with the car just wondering, especially after the work involved with the fenders.
I often wonder why manufacturers went through so much trouble making every year just a little different. My 66 Belvedere is different than 67's. My 67 Valiant is different than 68-69's. Nowadays models run years unchanged.
