Which wire on the 60 way connector is used for the relay output, 54?
After searching I didn't find any info on which wire of the smec was the output for this feature.
There seems to be an assumption here that the lockup wiring has already been brought/obtained from another vehicle...?
Even the Knize Pages do not show a pin for lockup with a smec in 89. But there is and it can be turned on.
If you happen to be in a situation where you have the lockup trans that you converted from a non lockup trans, AND you do not have a harness, here is where the two wires are to be connected to the lockup solenoid plug on the transmission:
Its the picture at the lower left where it says 'part throttle unlock'
The rectangular white plug behind the battery has 2 empty slots on the engine side.
These plugs can be added to with connector/wires from other plugs of this type.
I got mine from another harness that I had lying around which had the male blades in a black rectangular plug.
So add pins to that white plug and splice them to the solenoid, polarity does not matter.
Also, don't forget to activate this feature in the tune
I drove back to back with and without lockup and lockup seems to be worth an additional 5-8 mpg over the same distance with a stock 3.02 FD ratio.
I will get the .91 transfer gears eventually, as this auto is 8 mph slower now in top gear than my 3.77 5 speed was.
With the lock occurring at 34+mph, its better on gas around town for sure.
The SMEC never officially had this feature in the 2.5 engines. Though, the calibration data was hidden in the 2.5 Turbo SMEC cals. The 3.0 minivans did get the lockup, though. On the minivans, I believe it used the same output as the upshift indicator that the 2.5 TBI Manual trans vans got. On the minivan 60-way, that's pin #55...
