Spotted... IROC R/T... with rumors of a pilot car on the way...

    Spotted here...

    http://www.wagnersclassiccars.com/

The guy normally deals in Classic iron... and I stop every so often to check it out... as he often has nice stuff..

I pulled a U turn to go back and take a look when I saw this...

It was sitting in the showroom with a SRT10 Ram... 454 4spd vette... 71 Hemi Gtx... ect....

He claimed to have a IROC R/T pilot car coming in soon... Said three were known to exist.. Anyone know anything about this?

That is a super clean looking R/T but it is not a Pilot. The VIN is too late to be one of the 92 Pilot cars.....

Re: Spotted... IROC R/T... with rumors of a pilot car on the way...

My R/T is a pilot car, so I have tried to do a little research on this subject in the past. From what I remember, I had tracked down 5 pilot cars all together. Two of them were red (including mine) a black one, and a white one (that has since been crushed). From what I gather, the pilot cars could have been used to test the assembly line, train Chrysler service techs, Chrysler sales brochure photo shoots, crash testing, and durability testing. I suppose they would be considered rare, but dont necessarily increase the value of the car in my opinion. Post pictures when he gets the car in, i'd be interested in seeing it. Also take a look at the fender tag, it should have a second tag next to it that reads something like "PVP Pilot Car".

Yeah.. As you can tell from the pix the car is super clean... It had a little bump or bruise here and there... but dang...

I am pretty sure he had it down at the Mecum auction in KC recently...

I asked him how much... 15,900..... I think it could be bought for less.. but...

I'll be sure to drive by often and get pix of the pilot car when/if it arrives..

    Wow, beautiful car!

I would think that a real documented "PVP Pilot Car" would command a premium over a regular production model.

Depends on what it was used for, a brochure/photo shoot car maybe, one used for durability testing .... not so much.

I would agree so long as it were a low mile survivor car. I don't expect my car to be worth any extra over a similar R/T though.

The white car that you mentioned was crushed, must not have been the only white one. I used to own a white pilot car. It was 1 of 1 IROC R/Ts. Why? It was white with grey cloth, and was all manual - windows, locks, etc. Also, it had no hatch release and no rear defrost. Truly the lightest IROC R/T built. This car was in Indiana back in the 90s. It was owned by a member of the Andretti family. I believe it was this person that totaled it. Yes, totaled it! It had a sticker on the windshield from Indy Motor Speedway. It was purchased from a builder lot in Royalton, MN by my friend in 1995. He managed to buy and collect a bunch of parts over the next few years, but lost interest in it. I bought from him, finished it, and sold it to a guy in Nebraska

Hmmm... not sure if this is the same car but I have pics of a White R/T from the Mopar Nats mid 90's at IRP that had a "Indianapolis Speedway Certification" plaque on the core support that said it went 156mph...

As for the R/T pilot cars... I think there may have been a few of them, more than 3? Tommy's brother Dave had a red one and I seem to recall it having a "PILOT" tag on the core support.

The ad says original white, but is that overspray on the driver's wheel liner?

My pilot car is also a no option car. No hatch release, manual everything, cloth interior, no map lights or cargo lights. Considering the premium buyers paid for the R/T, I'd bet the only ones that never had any options were pilot cars.

I remember a black pilot car that came down from Denver for the Phoenix'97 convention. I would have to do some digging to find pics or maybe even find some video footage.

I had a friend in Jacksonville, Fl that had a white IROC R/T Pilot car. He sold it, then bought it back a few years later IIRC. I can't remember if he still has it. I think Rick Mosley used to own it at some point as well. As far as I know the car still exists. I'll try to confirm this and post back.

Ok this is what I know about the 92 Pilot cars from my VIN list. There were 6 Pilot cars built in 10/91 the first being a white one owned by Rick D and 12 Pilot cars built in 12/91 the first of them being Tylers red one
