Re: Naturally Aspriated Tall Deck TIII

What angle are the keepers on the TIII valve spring retainers? 7*?

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/PAC-1233-4-6...dbae0d&vxp=mtr

Any reason these won't work (with the correct amount of shims, of course)?

By my calculations, @1.73 installed height, they should give ~90lbs closed pressure and ~225lb open pressure @ .45 lift.

.450 of lift? Seeing that you are building an NA motor, I was kinda expecting .600+

Not sure what I'm going to run yet, but stock is close to .430 (I think), so I was using 0.450 just as a reference. I doubt it will be up as high as 0.600+ lift (is that even possible with the rockers?), though. I'll probably shoot for ~0.500".

Would probably help if anyone experienced with rocker issues could give you their info on problems faced. I wouldn't want to build a combo that just doesn't work. Cams can be made to give good results without maxing out lift, obviously there is give and take with all that. Nobody here has a rebuild the engine every race type of car.

Thank you for giving consistent updates and I have been lurking your thread for sometime. I may have missed it, but did you figure out a timing belt yet? How about the cam gears in combination with the crank pulley?

    Haven't even tried yet.

Though, I'm hoping that I can use a SOHC style belt; with modified or custom 8v pullies. Nissan VG30 and VG33 used the same style belt. I'm hoping one of those might fit. It's one of the reasons I really want to find better valve springs and run much less seat pressure. That would mean lower required belt tension, and I then should be able to use the 8v style belt.

I like this idea. I remember on neons.org they said 200whp n/a couldnt be done with a 2.0l sohc. A fellow names sick95sohc proved them all wrong. Made like 210whp at close to 9k rpms. Here is an excellent thread on intake manifolds http://forums.neons.org/viewtopic.php?f=87&t=349006

Stock lift is around .330. A stock head starts to stall, air flow wise, a little bit after that. I put cams in my stock head and its a joke.

Thought I'd commented on this build before but pretty cool, love those pistons and rods.

Any reason you didn't go with the cheaper to build 2.4L Neon engine?

Yikes, for that price, just get the Ti retainers from FWD.

No progress what so ever. It's still on the stand, but it was too cold to get much done last winter; even in the garage. This will probably get pushed to the side for the spring/summer. I bought a GLH I want to get on the road first.

Re: Naturally Aspriated Tall Deck TIII

It happens to the best of us. I pushed back all work on my project car until next spring due to moving. For me, there isn't any point of breaking the bank to get a car that isn't running at the end of it all.

Im curious, what does less valve pressure have to do with belt tension?

The way the valve events are, the stupid high spring pressure, its been traced to bad harmonics which is presumed to cause intermediate shaft wear and failure. The TIII's stock springs are good for over 9000 rpm and IIRC, are almost double what an SRT4 springs are.
