The other problem with high RPM is getting enough gear in the A413 to realize it. The highest possible factory gear ratio is 3.73. Which means crossing RPM is more like 6300rpm @110mph on 24.5" slicks.
To get it up to 9000+rpm, I need X-Fer + R/P gears that combine to give ~5.4 final drive or higher. That's a spendy set of custom gears. I think I'll try to keep it to 7k and 250hp or so.

Seems like the right cams are critical to this build eh Rob? Any lift, any duration, the big chore might be figuring the right amount of each, and well, some machining but I'm sure and experienced grinder could easy do the work

Ill have to check but i believe the fastest a n/a car has gone with a 413 is high 10's or low 11's and that was quite a few years ago with Scott Mohlers Neon running nopi/nhra.I cant remeber why he went back to manual.
I wonder what they used for gearing? Custom, straight cut FD and XFer gears would be nice. I think that will have to be part of Stage II. I think what I'll try to do is build the engine to be capable of high RPM. And target 250hp @ 7500 rpm. If I can hit that, then adding the hardware (gears, probably new rods/pistons eventually) to make it capable of high RPM should just bring more HP.

Pretty....
PM sent
Rob, I could swear I've seen custom sets of FD and transfer gears for the 413 come up every now and then that were pretty steep, 3.85, 4.10. Can't remember if it was neons.org or where I've seen it though.

There was a custom set that was for sale here a while.back, i remember them. Nearly straight cut, just enough pitch to reduce noise.
^ supposedly those are ~1.7:1
Isn't 9200rpm right where someone flat out BROKE t3 rocker arms? With the cost of valvetrain parts i don't think i'd want to be finding out anything the hard way!350WHP @ around 9200rpm
Dont push the red button. You hear me?
Could be, I pulled those #'s right out of my butt! lol It was (what I thought anyway) meant to be an obvious joke and a poke at Rob, hence the crack about tuning it. Was DetroitTurbo the only one that got that? lol
All joking aside, those #'s came from somewhere back in my longago, so probably not far from the truth. I think the 9200 rpm may have been what Stephan found the stock valvetrain with no mods was capable of. I think Rob's on the right track though, shooting for 7500rpm and keep things alive and practical.

Im trying to find out the final drive. It went in the 10.6-10.8 range.DCR built 2 trans for it.They quald 5th at the event, ripped trans out saturday night, put 5spd back in and won the event. He never ran the auto again after that, so if it did have custom pieces they still might be out there.Dont know if kish eneded up with them or not but id guess he did.
Those things are big
If i had to guess i would say for minimal spreading load. Also, you can't even run that short of a gear when you're trapping 160 so that explains the ratio thing.
Dont push the red button. You hear me?
Are you trying to avoid 3rd gear?
