Got my mini-scales today. Rods are 454g each. Is that light? I don't even know what the stockers weigh. Hmm, time to get the scales back out...

    T2 rod

    eagle rod
    565.5g

    Masi Casar rod 674.5g

I have my Ti rod weight that Mike D told me written down somewhere but it's probably packed away in the storage unit for a while.

    Weighed some more stuff...

    JE pistons - 407g
    Pins - 118g
    Clips x2 - 2.7g

    Lightened T2 rods - 702g
    Stock 2.5 T1 piston + pin - 486g

So, I guess the ally rods are pretty light. But, the JE's are a bit portly...

so just your piston and rod, no ring/locks/pins =861g. The JE piston and oliver rod for the 2.5 masi I'm building is 869g. couple more g's but lighter at the end. Wonder which would rev faster if it were just both shortblocks.

Wow, that's pretty good. These pins seem really heavy compared to stock. I'm wondering if there's a thinner wall pin available. I've looked on eBay (for NASCAR surplus stuff) with no luck so far.

Also, these pistons will lose a few grams when I flat-top them.

I've got a lengel intake if you end up buying the pieces from Adam to weld up your own. You can use mine for mockup, I wont be needing it until spring.

I have a head you can mock up with also, I need to get it to jackson eventually but funds have been tight with getting the truck back on daily duty.

Not sure if anything gets in the way since the TIII never came in that body style but I think jackson has one so maybe he would know

86-88 2.5 TBI engines were all Tall Deck blocks...

Were they all pseudo-common blocks? I'm interested in building a tall deck engine, and was under the impression that the 88 was the one to have, or at least had the common block webbing etc... I am lacking in my knowledge of the tall deck blocks and their "native homes".

Both of mine had 86 casting dates and they both look just like common blocks...

Yes, all tall blocks should have the same webbing design and material as the common block. When they did the common block, they just decided to "hack" off the top deck of the block to the standard 2.2 height, in laymans terms.

One more question, does it use the early style crank seals? I guess what I'm really asking is: can an early T1 crank be used without modification?

Way cool build. I can't wait to see what you can do with it!

EDIT: I have a set of Cunningham rods and will try to weigh them soon. They are for a Masi 16v 2.0L build I lucked upon. I don't think they are Ti, but I got an advertisement/flyer with them and apparently Cunningham was making Ti versions of them too so maybe?

No, they used CB seal housings front and rear, and the oil pan is the same shape as a 2.5 balance shaft pan. Though, the TD pan doesn't have the nasty sound deadening panels in it.

Ti will definitely 'ring' differently than steel or aluminum...
