    Re: $2013 GRM Shadow

I was planning to race in the under $1000 class as well until i realized it didn't exist. As it is i recouped the maximum $1006 dollars and have probably spent less than $100 so it's about $1100 according to the rules. If it weren't for the $1006 selling limit it would be lower.

Dont push the red button. You hear me?

No Under $1k class? I know they used to do it. I was building my car to be competitive in that class. Oh well, now my budget doubled.

I'm glad that there will be a strong showing of Turbo Mopars this year. Very cool.

That was my plan...$1k, until about 2 weeks ago when I realized they dropped it. I emailed Wallens and Vanoy about it to confirm and sure enough, it's gone. That's when I yanked the stock motor out and threw the other challenge motor in.

Now you have plenty of extra budget room.

Can you explain what this is about? Inside joke or something serious?

To get the broken axle stubs out of the differential....last year, I needed to make one decent pass to likely secure an overall win. On my first launch, the axle snapped in the diff. Pat (PunKid), Tony (SilverFleet) and the rest of the Jeep crew were the ones that came up with a big --- magnet that was strong enough to fish it out of the diff splines to swap out. Thanks to them, I was able to make a pass and get the win.

Effing magnets, how do they work?

When axles shear apart inside the transmission, a telescoping magnet is your best friend.

Last time i had to get one out, it was the kind with a circlip so it was REALLY in there.

What i did with the tools available to me was drive a self-tapping screw into the end of it, grab under the head with a pair of dikes, take the jack handle off and into two pieces, slip them over the handles of the dikes as cheater pipes, pry against the case, and it popped out. I was shocked that it worked but then i was super full of myself over my awesome ingenuity. After it popped out i was like this:

Shorts out a reed switch like that in our speed sensors. It triggers the smoke detector into alarm.

That ebay magnet looks good BUT it won't even fit inside the axle seal.. Not sure you could grab an axle stub without getting closer to it.

It's probably about time the magnet discussion move to it's own thread...
