Autorossed the Consulier GTP this last weekend

Saturday sucked! Kept cutting out. Did a couple runs and gave up.
That night went to a friends shop and changed the fuel filter.
That was it. But here is the results of the first day...I ran SSM class....

    http://scorekeeper.wwscc.org/results/or2013/14/all

Sunday went much better. Ran great. I am VERY rusty. Not much
    autocrossing the last 7 years. And a non-FWD car...what a change.
Traction from start was amazing. I could floor it and bring up the
clutch and it just goes. I learned DO NOT have the brakes on AT ALL
during a turn or it will NOT turn. That lesson brake first, then turn
is so much more true in this car compared to my GLHS.

Easy to control, can even get the back a little loose on a long sweep
    with a controlled power on.
I need to learn to be smooth again.
    I NEED AUTOCROSS TIRES.

I used my Falken street tires, which did okay, but I did find their
limits. Most of the other cars were on real good sticky sheet legal
    tires or autocross tires.

Here is the second day results, I ran TO....Time Only...
    (near bottom of list)
    http://scorekeeper.wwscc.org/results/or2013/15/all

Mostly, the second day I had a good time!! And sorted
through what I need and want to prepare so the next
year autocross season will be more sucssessful....
    as in competitive.
Some of those cars and drivers are really good.

Did not get on photo of my car on course. But had a couple to show.
Most of the srt4 which broke a wheel while running.

Raw times I was 48 out of 83 cars that day. I was very first run of the day, cold and a little foggy morning. Got warm later. So I have an excuse.

Oh, and I only spun the car one time.

Excellent! How did the AX peeps react to the car?

Broke wheel looks like those cheap mesh bling repros! Maybe crusty old 80's wheels are better for a low budget set...

Did not look at the brand.
Was told aluminum wheels that are spindly like those when stressed will ALL do that sooner or later.

Maybe there is a reason I like the larger spokes better after all.

Excellent! How did the AX peeps react to the car?
While driving out to the course, many people stopped what they were doing and just stared.
Others while out there asked about it. Most just....well, just another car.

Top not finished. Just took the finished structure and duct taped a piece of black canvas to it. It worked!

Cool, good to hear that you are back out on the autocross track. Thread jack, sort of, long ago, maybe 1982, I had an American Mag break on Mulholland. 124 Fiat SC, front left wheel, fast down hill right hander, heading east between Coldwater and Laurel, car went across the road on the disc, up the rolled berm curb, and the disc caught traction when it sunk into the soft dirt on the far side of the curb. I was about 2 feet from going over a big a** cliff. Wheel ripped the fender like paper. Checked the other wheels, found a second with little cracks where the spokes met the center.

R-compound will put a lot of effort on the parts!

Wheels do need to be checked peridiocally especially being on a track. It happen once in a while even with reputable brand.

The shocks will be rebuilt this winter. Bushings replaced. Tires bought.
Need to find two 15" 5-on-100 7" wide light weight (but strong) wheels for the front.

I've been checking around for cheap 15x7 traklites with no luck.. Did you decide on some dedicated sticky tires yet?

I just noticed how short and tall that vette looks next to yours! Not many cars can do that to a vette..

My wannabe sherlock senses tells me the broken wheel is a BBS RS replica in 17x9. I always wondered if replica guys do the proper stress maths for all the sizes they offer... Or if they just take the design from one size and make it sorta look right for another size.

No, but was told "IF" I want to win I need Hoosiers.
If I want to just play, any autocross tire is 2nd place.

Fuel filter should be change every year. Sooner if the car has been sitting for a while.

This is from a car that didn't run for 3-5 years. This is a fresh filter with maybe 5000 miles on it.

Let it sat for a day.

Because the fuel level was so low in the car for so long?
It shouldn't rust when the level is full.
Did you remove and flush the tank to get the rest out?

Best we could. Then replaced the sender. As it was keeping the issue on going.

Will the 15x8 0 offset Traklites? You can get a set of Holeshots in that size from Ebay for $580 a set. I want them for my Omni.
