    Throttle control

    Howdy,

I have a 1987 Daytona Pacifica (only owner). What can anybody tell be about a throttle control box and/or throttle control motor? That is what mechanic tells me I need to get car running again. Also told me this part is hard to find? Thanks

If he is referring to the Idle/air control motor then yes they are hard to find if you have the suck through style throttlebody. if he means the TPS (throttle position sensor) then you can get them through Rockauto or your local parts store.
if you have the better blow through intake then you can usually still get everything through your local parts store or on rockauto.com.

    Re: Throttle control

The '87 Pacifica still used the old draw-through style system, although I believe it was a four-wire AIC if I remember correctly. This would make it unique to the '87 system, and yes, it's very hard to find.

I do have a new-in-the-box Borg Warner TPS sensor that should fit, if that helps you any. I'll send it to you for the cost of shipping, as I have no use for it.

I won't be home til tonight but I have a 87 Pacifica also(although converted to t2). If I remember correctly the ais use to be two wires. I can't remember off the top of my head but I think I had to add two wires for the ais when I converted?.

Definitely a 4 wire ais. Any later style 4 wire ais will work.

    Re: Throttle control

My 87 Pacifica had the 4 wire. Maybe it was a mid year thing. But I distinctly remember it being a 4 wire.

    I agree.
Unless this has the later blow-through throttle body, it should be a two-wire/DC air idle control.

    Re: Throttle control

I remember when i did the t2 conv. I only had to run two wires. So if the TPS is 4 wire then the ais is two and if the TPS is 2 then the ais is 4.

    Re: Throttle control

Thank you all for your responses. I don"t know much about engines, so please forgive my ignorance. My mechanic also had told me that there were 2 different idle control motors used in the 87 Pacifica. One was what he called in an "external" "box" and the other was an "internal" box.....if that means anything to anybody. He did manage to find one idle control motor for the car, but unfortunately if did not work. He never said anything about the sensor tho. If the sensor was bad, would the car still run at all?
The car will run, but intermittantly revs when you are sitting still. If it truely is the idle/control motor that is bad, and a replacement can't be found, is there another alternative to fixing the situation? Thanks again for all the help!
