    SBEC Flash module problems/questions.

What we are working on is a 1990 Caravan... Factory 5spd T1 turbo van.. Which has recently received a stock Masi engine...

I had Rob (Boostbutton.com) work me up a calibration as the Masi engine was never paired up with a SBEC... only a SMEC.. He has been great!!! and he has done way more than I paid for to this point... So before I bother him to much I want to make certain the problem isn't on my end... The trouble is I need this van ASAP

    Here is the deal..

a 2.5 T1 SBEC throws no codes.. No CEL SBEC unit from 90 shadow T1 auto.. fires right up run rough...

A stock VNT SBEC shows CEL but starts and runs.... never bothered to swap back to 2 bar MAP to see how well it might run....

    throws
    64(?) VNT circuit,
    and 23 Charge temp.

The Calibration from boostbutton shows CEL Is hard to start and won't rev above 3K even when moving 15mph plus.....
Based on VNT calibration with some mods...
via my OTC 4000 throws a
"unknown FaultFF" (IIRC flashed the CEL 66)
    37 PTU circuit
    23 Charge temp

Not sure if I did something wrong? Or? I figure before I start tinkering I should ask...

Adding the socket and flash module went well... Kinda... I screwed up a trace on the T1 SBEC from the van.. I had a spare SBEC from a VNT car... and put the flash module in that quite easily after learning a few things on the first try...

What I don't know is if I have something messed up... Or what I need to do to make the calibration play nicely????

While installing the engine I did have to modify the injector harness to reach the injectors so they would fire sequentially.. and extend a couple things here and there... but again.. no codes in the short time the van has run on the T1 SBEC calibrations..

Where would you start to make certain the problem isn't on my end?

Thinking I might make a SMEC to SBEc adapter to try and run the Masi SMEC..

Will need to make something to batch fire the injectors hopefully without pulling the injector harness..

What other issues might a guy run into. the plan would be to pull the SBEC female from a dead SBEC.. Then attach wires to proper pins to use a SMEC?

If it is that simple I might just try it until the calibration can be worked out?

    Or?

Well... Went through the pinouts last night and built an adapter to plug a SMEC into a SBEC harness... and it fired right up.... and much to my delight didn't seem to let any smoke out of the system anywhere...

The first to SBEC's I found were 89 2.5 T1's according to the OTC 4000... And the last one I tried was unknown.. but assume T2 because the Charge temp caused a CEL... So I'll figure that out...

I figured I would try and run it for a second on a T2 SMEC before plugging the Masi SMec in and smoking it...

Hopefully this works so I can take my time getting the SBEC to run the masi engine...

Did you try the BB computer on a 3-bar MAP? Or 2-bar? It's setup for 3-bar...

    Three Bar...

Getting the FF unknown fault... and 37 PTU... Other than that it seem Ok... Not sure the boost control is working properly.. Have it setup T1 style? Do I need to set vac lines up like a T2?

Trying to figure out why the innovate wideband is only showing full rich or full lean...

Should be T1 style boost control.

The Unkown Fault (Code 66) is a CCD bus error. Nothing to worry about; but I'll try to figure out why it has that code. It shouldn't.

    Does it rev now?

Yep... It revs now... Some idiot didn't have speed sensor plugged in...

and cleared up the wideband.. Apparently messing around I unplugged it with the unit on.. So I had to recalibrate. I was using it for the narrow band output.. So that may help things also..

Playing Mr Mom now.. I'll take it for a spin later...

I ain't worried about the unknown code if it isn't a problem... Charge temp wire was soldered to back of board.. and just hanging in engine bay..... So if you drop me a second Cal.. and there is some way to do away with it...

Any ideas on the 37 PTU code?

Its not a problem, but I'll try to fix it. I thought using a CSX cal as a base would prevent that codec as the P-bodies never had the CCD bus.

Not sure why its showing a 37, either, but I'll look. Probably a flag I missed somewhere in that base cal, too.
