    95 neon no start

Okay guys just bought this car. 95 neon 5 speed sohc. Bought the car non running. Got it home no spark. Unplugged cam sensor cranked it and got spark but still no start. Getting fuel. What is wierd is that when it gets spark it acts like it will start but no bueno. I even took the harness out and fixed all of the bad connections. One thing that throws me off is that when you have the key on the fcc starts to make a high pitch noise. I dunno I'm at a loss. Any ideas.

It's possible the cam timing may have jumped. I would check that. Do you have access to any kind of obd2 scan tool?

Passenger vehicles were obd 2 by 95, if memory serves me right. Most commercial vans and truck based chassis vehicles werent obd 2 until 96.

Im going with vigo. Check base time, then check coil health. 25 kv on each plug at least. After that fuel, etc. All your grounds still intact?

Nope. Scan tool only goes back to 96. Either way I got it to flash codes at me. I'm going to be doing a compression test on it today. It doesn't sound right turning over like low compression. But it has compression just not sure how much. Will report back in a few.

And ALL grounds are there and in good shape. Even pulled and cleaned them all just to be sure.

Well. Compression numbers. 60, 90,65,60. Shot oil in the cylinders. All numbers went up to over 100. So motor is shot. Sooo looks like a 2.4 is in this cars Very near future.

If it werent for the 95 outlier i'd still be saying to look at cam timing. Any idea what happened with the previous owner? Like, ran bad for a long time before it finally quit? Or, they overheated it until it locked up and then when it unlocked it wouldnt start anymore?

Not sure about previous owner. Bought it from a dealer lot. Was in the back with 350 on the windows.

Well pulled the pistons tonight. ALL the rings were stuck smooth in the grooves. Piston walls are not scored. As a matter of fact they still have cross thatching. So a simple quick hone and re ring this thing should be back going

That may support my suspicion that it was massively overheated and the rings lost tension. Might want to put a straight edge on the head 'just in case'.
