The 1990 Dodge Caribou Turbo!

Of all the threads I have titled "I have a problem" this probably fits the best...

But what the hell right?



Started with a 1990 5 spd turbo van... The still running perfectly 300K mile engine was swapped into the auto tranny van... (yes I have two turbocharged "Rudolph vans" )


And yeah... The mid engine charger is still "in progress", just on the back burner... and I didn't feel like building an engine right now...


Added an OBX... and well....


About to eat a sandwich and then try firing it up on the 1990 T1 sbec (proper calibration is on the way)











For now the Masi is still basically stock...


I had to build a "extension cord" for the injector harness... and of course I modified an old harness for the injectors..

Pulled the TPS/AIS wiring free from the loom and one had to extend one wire..

Everything else was plug and play..


Using a Stock Rad/intercooler setup.... For a van I have just welded a couple short pieces of pipe on a flat bar and bolt that to the lower core support... Stock assemblies drop right in that way.. and it even clears the Masi intake..

I'll do a bigger IC later..

Running a bit rough... Still using the T1 2.5L SOHC calibration as I haven't popped the SBEC apart yet to socket it for the flashable chip... Having ShelGame work up a starting point for me..

This makes me happy..

Open exhaust... (I knew I should have just went ahead with one of the 'big' turbo's I have laying around.... as the stupid Masi outlet comes out at a kinda weird angle and none the 2.5 inch downpipes I have bolt right up... have to think about this. might just swap turbo now..)

Nice work A local friend of mine used a wedge shaped piece of stock for the turbo flange, about 5/8'ths thick on one side and about 3/16ths on the other to give him enough of an angle for the turbo clearance. A simple soultion to correct that odd angle that the Masi Ex manifolds have.

Still awaiting a proper Calibration... But we went around the block last night anyway....




Oh... and new KYB GR2's up front... Air shocks in the rear (for thedragstrip )


The front got Daytona shelby springs which resulted in a two inch drop... and I took a leaf from the rear for a 1.25 inch drop back there... Once all the new parts show up I should be down just a bit more in the back with a higher springrate (still a work van don't cha know..)


3 inch exhaust done...

Momo wheel from the Maserati TC installed.
radiator intercooler setup from the TC installed and plumbed..
New wheel bearings in the rear... (remember this is a 300K mile van)
Tonight's project is properly mounting the boost gauge and hooking up the wideband.
