    Consulier Brake questions

Who installed new brakes? What did you find...they 88 or 89 style? (are those the same?)
I was looking and 89 Caravan has different part numbers than 89 Daytona Shelby. But the rotors are the same.
So I'd heard the Caravan ones are bigger? Better?

Also I tried finding the brake hose number someone posted, can you post it here please?

Caravan calipers are bigger and have bigger pads. I think the pistons are 60mm in the vans. Unfortunately there are very few pad choices for the vans. You need to run the van bracket as well.

I would run the steel piston, the phenolic ones can crumble under extreme heat. Just make sure to run good brake fluid with steel pistons.

    Re: Consulier Brake questions

There are two brake systems for the mini vans...14" wheels and 15" wheels. I was told only the 14" one will work, and these have the 10" rotor.
Why wont the 15" wheel system with the 11" rotors work?

Thought lug spacing was the issue. The 14s had 5x100 and the 11" alloy/steel 15's were 5x114

    Re: Consulier Brake questions

15" 90 and earlier vans use the 89/90 Shelby daytona lightweight spindle (actually the other way around as the vans had them 1st). So if you have early spindles you can't just bolt on a larger bracket and run 11's. You either have to change the spindle or just do the 10" SLH1 conversion using 14" van brakes.

Yes 15" vans had big bolt pattern hubs but they bolt in so a small bolt pattern hub is an easy swap and is what they did for the 89/90 Shelby Daytona's and GTC's.

Any one do their rear brakes yet? I have the new calipers and pads on. But the cables for the eBrakes don't work right.

All new brakes and hoses...calipers and master cylinder. Bleed and bleed and still feel mushy. I am not sure what I am not doing right.

    Re: Consulier Brake questions

    Obvious questions first.
Was the master cylinder properly bench bled?
Are the caliper bleeder screws facing up?
What bleeding technique are you using? 2 people? vacuum? gravity?

    Yes, good question!
Are the caliper bleeder screws facing up?
Yes, you never know, but I did do them right.

Using two people, but also speed bleeders have been added.

I did find that "Brake Guard" was the system of anti-look brakes that are on the Consulier.
And they company still sells the system.
