Aluminum piece should be universal to the 88...with long or short gear...right?

The 88 oil seal retainer should be the same as any other 88 and earlier seal retainer.

Took apart the original good GTP engine so I can get forged pistons in it.

    Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa

Took it all to the machine shop yesterday to get bored 20 over and add the forged pistons to the rods.
    And have it all balanced.

Started to take the back of my car apart again to pull the engine.

    Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa

Got the engine/trans out again today. Took the pan off to see what the issue was.
Want to see what was making the noise before installing the other engine.
(machine shop said it was done and I can pick it up Monday)

Rod noise right? Maybe not. The rod was not loose and bearings not bad.
What I did find was the clips on the pins that go inside the pistons...were not there.
No clips on any of the pins. Could this make a rod-like noise?

Do the pins fall out? If not then I would assume that the rods were old N/A HD units with pressed pins. Others may know but I am unsure if the pin size is the same on the pressed vs. bushed rods.

Okay, the machine shop guy said these are press fit pins and no clips were needed, so that was not the issue.

The original engine has been bored out 20 and new forged pistons added.
    Crank polished. New bearings.
    All balanced!
It has a forged crank I discovered.
Clutch is on, the trans is attached. Ready to put it back into the car tomorrow.

What was the issue with the other engine?
I don't know yet. Bearings looked scratched.
Took the crank and rods/pistons to the machine shop to have him inspect them.
Will find out in the next couple days.

Ready to prime and then start the car. But oil sender was bad, a post broke off.
Surprised to find one at NAPA.

Not sooner than it was done, the Clutch MC gave it up. Installed the new one. That was fun!
