First car show yesterday afternoon. Not ready for show, but was invited to show it in the stage it is in. Lots of people looking. Was about 80 cars there...some really cool stuff.

    - - - Updated - - -

    They put me up front.

    - - - Updated - - -

Just thought I would share a few that were there.

    - - - Updated - - -

Had big hopes today. Was told by a couple people they thought the 87-92 Toyota supra top fit the targa Consulier.
no it does not. Try today with a guy that had one for sale.wonder what does.....

What makes makes you think he used an existing targa top? I would believe he made everything for the body including the windshield.

He didn't fashion his own tail lights. How much would that have added to the cost to have something designed better than whats there?

    Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa

    Observations:
It is really nice having a convertible again

It is fun having a car able to do a 35mph corner at 75mph
When you have no top and it starts to pour down rain, it’s great to find the heater control
It is bad the defrost doesnt work, and VERY hard to see the road, at night, in the rain
Its great to finally figure out the defrost and it works great
at 35mph you get a little wet, at 60 it’s mostly dry
after a 460 mile trip in the sun and rain, I still really like this car

    - - - Updated - - -

Got 39 mpg on the way there
Got 29 mpg on the way back
I "played" on the way back! There was this Charger.......

    Charger???
    With blue lights??
You were supposed to stop, not push through 35mph corners at 75!

Before I left for the show, I made this. The fans did not suck through the radiator because the rear wing is not there. So took a piece of aluminum and sized it and bent it to fill in a place so the fan would work. I got caught in a traffic jam for an hour and never did over heat, so guess it worked.

Got some stuff that really helped the dash black. Looks much better.
Used "New Wipe"...as seen on TV.

Also had a new Alpine stereo installed.

The other photo is a shot of whats behind the passenger side seat.
The aluminum gas tank. Holds 12 gallons it says.

    Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa

My car has not run right since I got it road worthy. Drive is like a grandma and it is fine.
Got together yesterday with three buddies and we tested and fixed it.
I thought it was the new fuel pump so I had a new one bought and ready.

Took the car for a test drive with George in the passenger side turned around looking at the engine bay
watching the fuel pressure gauge I had attached to the fuel rail. At about 3k rpm it falls flat and also the
    fuel drops to 20 psi.

Take off the pump and there is so much crap in the line before it, it's ugly. Clean the line, add the new pump.
ALSO go to NAPA and buy a in-line fuel filter (1/2" line). Add this additional filter before the pump. The other
"factory" filter is after the pump. Replaced that also.

    Test drive....
SWEET! Now it runs like it should. George and I have smiles on our faces, so when we return from the test drive,
    everyone knows its fixed.

I will replace this inline filter often for a while. Used NPAPA Gold gas filter #3248

STUDEBAKER! I had a '53 Starlight hardtop Commander. Those cars could almost keep up with yours in a downhill race in neutral.

Another car from this last Wednesday show I thought was really cool...

    Little more about yesterday....
After the fix Barbie time, we went to lunch and then I headed home. Up to that time it was cloudy but warm. I get about 5 miles down the freeway and it starts to rain. That's fine it just goes over the car, doesnt even get my glasses or hat wet. BUT about 30 miles down the road it gets raining harder, then HARD! I mean thunder, lightning and pouring. I slow to 35 mph like everyone else. I can NOT see...I follow tail lights, I can see the white stripe on the right side of the freeway a little. I find an overpass and pull off under it. I put on my rain coat and grab a tee-shirt to wipe the inside of the windshield with. I decided to continue on. About 2 miles later I am thinking I should have stayed under the overpass. But then I might be there for hours, as the clouds are black. After about 50 miles it lightens up. I am on interstate 5 heading south and by time I hit highway 38 it is nice again. Highway 38 all the way to the coast is "fun", full of corners. A play it save and go the speed limit until a supercharged 4-door sedan Buick passes me. I keep up to see what he does. After about 30 miles of playing he slows and wants me to pass him. I do but keep my speed at normal. He stays way back. As soon as I get to highway 101 on the coast the light rain starts and stops the rest of the way to Coos bay. I stop and fill up with fuel as my tank always says 1/2 full. Barbie got 30 mpg average that trip.

    Re: 1990 Consulier GTP Targa

Want a real nice convertible top for my targa but that has to wait for more money.
So in the mean time I am making one that will "make do" for now. At least it will
keep 90 percent of the rain or sun out.
I made an aluminum piece for the front and utilized the front holes to bolt it in place.
Then welded square tubing in the correct locations. These hold aluminum rods that go
rearward to the holes that are already in the targa bar. The rods pull out so it can
disassemble so it can fit in the trunk.
Welds are not the greatest, I am just learning. But they seem to hold.

There are still a couple things to do to it. Then will make a canvas "skin".
This will fasten to the aluminum front, then using velcro straps to hold it
to the back targa and the side pieces still yet to be made.

The rain episode sounded like fun. Dangerous but fun.

Those MIG beads don't look bad! How do the rods secure to the back part?

They just push into holes that were already there. And held in by the light pressure from the front piece.
