I picked up the engine cover today. The painter said after looking it over with me, and after I left, he re block sanded it and re sprayed it. WOW, it even looks better now.

Now it's going to make the rest of the car look bad so you will have to respray it also! That's his plan anyway!
Different way of making a car floor mat.
Used .050 aluminum sheet.
Cut it to the shape I needed.
Glued my carpet on to it.
Edged it with rubber press on stuff.
Now the mat won't bunch up while spirited driving.

Now you need cross drilled floor mats to save weight! Lol
Got my engine cover bolted on to the car today.
Also cut the hole in it. Kind of a "OH NO" kind of moment when I started to cut into this brand new perfect cover.
1. Centered and taped the stainless piece..then marked where to cut and drill.
2. Shows where marked and it where it will be cut and drilled.
3. Added tape to give me a place to rest my hands while cutting and not scratch anything.
4. Ruff cut out
5. All cut out
6. Masking tape off and looking good.
7. Set the stainless piece in place to see how it looks.
8. This is the stainless grid I might use and trim close up.

Looking good Johnny!
That's going to look great!
Continued on the vent today for the Consulier engine cover.
9. Made a upper and lower piece from 3/4" plywood.
Cut them apart at an angle with a jig saw to the size I wanted.
Sort of a male/female now that will mate together to form the mesh.
Used a upper to press over the lower with the stainless screen/mesh in the center.
This hopefully will bend the screen to the shape I need.
10. The goal was to then use screws to press the upper down.
Used the hammer hitting the upper wood piece, then tighten the screws
a little, then hammer, then tighten.
11. After tightening as much as I could, I took all the screws out.
...and pulled the top piece of wood off.
12. Looks like it worked.
13. Set the trip piece on and marked where it needed trimmed.
14. Cutting the screen
15. Set it all on, looks like it will work.
Will get some stainless bolts tomorrow and assemble it on the engine cover.

Drove the Consulier for the first time today since install of the engine cover being done.
Much less road noise into the cab of the car.

The mesh vent cover looks great! I really like the way you formed it. I'll have to stick that in the files for when I run into a situation I can use that idea.

That explains why the louvers were further down. Also explains why the series 2 had the snorkel out there, to get the air to flow out of the engine bay, not into it.
Who's holding the camera at speed?? I think you need a GoPro and a mount , might be safer
I was holding the iPad. I have a camera for this but it was going to rain and no time to set it up. So had a friend drive while I turned around, on my knees, took the film. It was raining by time I got home.

Real one is done. Now took it apart and get it ready for paint.

When the sun hits the leather dash it reflects a lot. So I am going to fix that.
Made a template today from poster board. Using it as a pattern to cut out some
non-reflective grey fuzzy something... will look around for something I like Monday.
Have any ideas of what to use? Carpet I guess.

Hit up an upholstery shop and a craft/fabric store. I bet you'll find something suitable at one of those. Perhaps something with a bit of a suede texture that won't reflect too much?

Good idea and thats what I started to do yesterday. Saw a friend that does leather. He has a lot of suede, but none the right color. But it looks like it would work. So we went to a fabric store and the fake suede they had was real light grey, no black in stock. Its real this, too.
Will look at a couple places that were not open today.

I was going to suggest either fake suede, or alcantara. You can do flocking yourself, too. I've looked into it and am still considering it for some things. It's just really messy when you do it. It's supposed to be super durable, though.
Got my deflector back from the paint shop. Installed it!
