Yikes! Wheel is $35 on Ebay-pre balanced so throw it on if you have the 12 point nut, labour for housing is $60 to machine.

ah makes sense now, the stock wheels are that price (and a damn good deal too) The BAE wheels are a bit larger at 62/86.

I just read the rebuild writeup, one small problem, if your Holset has a 6 point nut, you must rebalance when you install a new compressor wheel, if your turbo has the 12 point nut, no rebalance needed.

Wouldn't be, you could even send me the cover if you can't find anyone cheap enough. That would give you a nice upgrade in compressor flow.

I don't see why it wouldn't, your only removing a few mm's worth of meat. Look at a stock T3 housing, we stuff 50 trim T4 wheels in there.

Any compressor wheel, either you buy it or I do a package deal.

I showed this link to a buddy of mine and he is thinking of doing this to a HX35 he bought for his 7.3 IDI. We cant wrap out heads around why the nut matters. Were the 6 bolt turbos not made from balanced parts? The guy selling the wheel said it was balanced, and from what my friend understands holsets are made from balanced parts, not balanced as a whole like a garret.

Im sorry, not 6 bolt. 6 point nut.

6 point nuts means it was balanced as an assembly.
12 point nut is component balanced so each piece is balanced separately.

like Simon said if you swap wheels you need to get the assembly rebalanced. I think shops charge 100-150 for this.

Ridiculously large for efficiency but probalby quite fun for spool. AKA you won't hit the hp potential of the compressor wheel but you would have fun getting there.
