    2006 dodge stratus timing

Need help with the timing on a 2006 dodge stratus

Long story short I replaced the timing belt on the car after the original broke, When I removed the timing chain cover I noticed the 2 cam sprockets are not aligned now. With the motor at TDC I need to know how to set the cams back correctly. I have the repair manual but it is pretty vague as to the instructions given are for belt replacement not mentioning if the belt actually breaks.

It is a 2.4 DOHC engine

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Simple, the cam gears have a line, they will face each other. Crank is at TDC.

If the belt broke, chances are you bent some valves.

Crank arrow is on the timing (crank) sproket at about 1 o clock and it lines up to an arrow in the oil pump housing. That's DTC.
Cam lines all line up together with the sprockets showing 2.4L front ^^up.
My info shows the 2.4L dohc engine having valve to valve contact and piston to valve clearance in the event of a belt breakage.
I'd try a belt and take your time and see if you get lucky. You can run the engine with the timing covers off as long as the engine is supported and see how it runs. You never know, I've been lucky with 2.4's before.

Out of curiosity, how many miles were on the car when the belt broke? Was it the original belt? I've got a 2006 Stratus 2.4 approaching 100k and am starting to think of the timing belt... As far as timing yours, all the info above sounds right, I did the belt on my 99 2.4 a couple years back. It was pretty straightforward just a tight space right by the strut tower.

Do it, 100,000 miles and 7 years is right on the timeline.
