What Shifter to use for Minivan??

Hey everyone. My plan is to drop my 520 transmission into my minivan. I got the minivan console and shifter, but that minivan had a 525. So, it seems the 525 shifter doesn't work so well on the 520. I pulled the 520 shifter from my daytona today, and compared the two. The 520 shifter is shorter, by about an inch. I want my shifter to be at least stock minivan height, or higher, because stock, it is level with the seat bottom, which I think is a bit low anyway. My idea is to possibly cut the front of the 520 shifter off and weld it onto the 525 shifter, so the cable mounts will be in the proper position. Would that work? or are the shifters entirely too different?
    thanks,
    Lee
