    Coat Floor With Bed Liner?

Anyone coat the floor of their car with a bed liner product such as UPol Raptor? The interior is out of my GLHT and I am in the process of undoing some items the previous owner installed. Once I have everything removed and prepped I was thinking of spraying the floor with something durable but I am up in the air if I will like it or not. I would still put carpet in the car but thought it would be a nice touch to keep the floors in good condition. It would add a little weight but its probably pretty minimal. Any thoughts? Pointless to do if installing carpet anyway?

Do it, good way to prevent rust from water intrusion and will insulate the car a bit. Hit a bare panel, boing, hit one after being sprayed, it doesn't boing.

I did the same to my GLHT....tinted silver to match the exterior color. I can't seem to post any pics, so if you want some before and after shots, shoot me a pm with your email address and I'll send you some pictures.

Thanks everyone, I think I will go for it. I will be installing carpet on top of it but it will be nice for a little more protection on the floors.

How much material did it take to cover the floor?

You could probably get away with popping a can of rubberized undercoat at any local parts store. Last i picked up a can, it was 3 or 4 bucks. Two cans should do you plenty

ive used the rubberized undercoating before and it didnt work out well, scraches right off and didnt protect the metal, its worth paying the extra for the bed liner

I have no experience with this product myself, but when / if I get off my lazy butt to start my resto, I'll be using this :

It appears to be thinner than regular bed liner..don't know for sure though

I have used Lizard skin on several cars. Good stuff.
Lighter than undercoating or bed liner.
Actually deadens sound and the heat control does block heat.

Dang! 30 deg F drop in temp?
That's what I need inside Slugmobile! I'll have to remember that whenever I restore her body.

Are you using both the ceramic and the sound barrier?

Lizard skin sounds legit. But does it undercoat and protect like bedliner? It has ceramic pieves in it. Just curious about longevity

    Yes, I used both.
Apply the sound control first and then the heat control over it.
After that if you want, you can go over both with aint or undercoat.
    I haven't and it's holding up fine.

Re: Coat Floor With Bed Liner?

I was just browsing and happened upon this thread. This is exactly what I plan to do with my '85 ragtop. It had a medium amount of floor rust with most of the floor being intact, surface rust on a lot but some areas in the front that I have to weld new metal into. I plan to do the welding, clean, then prime everything with Rustoleum rusty metal primer, then spray it with white Plastikote bed liner (the car is white). I have a can of seam sealer to brush onto the seams but don't know whether to do that before or after the bed liner. Then the carpet will go on next. Being a convertible, you know the floor is going to get wet at some time or another and I'm hoping the bed liner will prevent future rust, plus add some sound proofing.

On the down and dirty side, I'm going to clean, prime, paint and undercoat.

Ic you plan to reapply the seam sealer, pull as much off as you can. I found rust underneath both sides of ths sealer inside my 86 z, down the rocker panel seams. Well worth the effort, a thin paint scrapper usually can pull most all of it off. After that, a wire brush helps.

I used Hy-Tech SC#1000 from hy-tech solutions. It's the same stuff as lizardskin but cheaper and even cheaper if you just buy the powder(micro spheres) You can buy it by the gallon or just the ceramic micro spheres and mix it in any paint. You can get the same color as your car and it wont even show. The mix is 80% spheres and 20% paint. The paint is only required as a carrier.Once it is dried up and the solvents have evaporated, the weight is next to nothing. Some people use an undercoating gun to spray it on, I used a brush. This stuff looks like flour. Wear a mask if you decide to mix it yourself. I did my GLH from firewall to the back lights and the roof of the car.
Here as link on another forum. It's long, just read the first few pages and you will get the idea.
