New Project. I have gone RWD

Well, some may be sad to hear I have sold my SRT swapped neon. I still have another neon, and plan on getting a Omni in the near future so don't worry!

But anyways, I have really been itching to build a RWD car. I love Volvo, and classic looking cars so what better than a 1989 Volvo 240.

    It is currently a 2.3 Redlbock N/A with a M47 5 speed manual trans.

In the works is a 2.3 Turbo Whiteblock swap (Volvo's newer 5 Cylinder Turbo.) I also will be running a W58 Transmission, 19T turbo, and VEMS engine management.

On the way right now is a set of Coilover hardware, and Koni Race series shocks. I have some Borbet Type E wheels getting wrapped in Hankook RS4 tires.

The interior will be getting Recaro seats of course.

When I worked at the hotrod shop we built one of those with a 351 ford and 4 speed. Made it interesting!

Very cool project, but I have to say, I'm disappointed to hear that that Neon sold. That was one of my favorite cars at SDAC last year...would have loved to have had a shot at it. :-)

I had a really nice 78 242dl. I traded it to get THREE more FWD vehicles, haha.

I still have my Magnum, but i dont care that it's RWD. It just doesnt come up much on cars that you dont plan to motor swap.

Anyway, looks like a good starting point for a project!

I remember that, and I really wanted it but did'nt have the sources at that time to pick it up.

Re: New Project. I have gone RWD

It was a really cool car and would have been a fantastic basis for a motor swap. If i put all my effort/resources into it it would have ended up the coolest car i ever owned. But, when it came down to it i wasnt willing to put THAT much into it and it was a little boring for me as a stock car. Definitely a neat eye-catching car.. but there arent many non-turbo volvos that are really that interesting until you motor swap them. Obviously you are swapping yours so i think we mostly feel the same about stock non turbo volvos.

Re: New Project. I have gone RWD

I'm curious as to the bolt pattern Volvos use...

I've seen some that look similar to pumpers, and have been wondering,
a: would they fit cars or vans, and
b: are they lighter than the, oh so heavy, pumpers...

5x108mm When I upgraded my 850's wheels I went with newer model stockers. Wasn't anything else affordable. Not as common as even 5x100.

We at least got VW and Subaru on, I think Volvo has only Mercury. Ford's Jags too I think.

Yes, some later ford wheels work. Volvo has been using 5X108 forever, and then ford picked it up when they bought Volvo. Ferrari also uses it.

These particular wheels are actually 5x112. I am using a adapter/spacer so the bolt pattern doesnt matter.

I was afraid of something like that... too bad too, they look like pumpers with a bit more "twist".

Those are the stock 700/900 series turbo wheels. The 850 also came with a similar looking wheels.
