Does changing the transfer gears change the speedo reading?

I just put the .91 transfer gears in, will my speedo be affected?

No. Speed sensor runs off the passenger side drive shaft.

Ok, I know its driven off the drive shaft but does the change in gear ratio affect it?

The axle is after the trans, so you can change gear ratios all day long and it will read the same as long as you have the same tires on it.

No problem, I had to think about it when I put the 3.50 gear with the OBX in my A555.

It will change your tranny's shift points though.

Yeah, I noticed that, it seems to have lowered my part throttle shift points. Can't remember about WOT but all I remember is at the track, it won't shift out of 1-2 unless I put the selector in 3rd? Didn't do that before I changed the gears?

Re: Does changing the transfer gears change the speedo reading?

The only thing that will affect your speedometer calibration is changing the tire size without installing the correct gear in the speedometer cable.

On RWD 1970's Mopars, the speedometer gear is in the transmission, BEFORE the rear axle gears, so in that case, either tire size, gear ratio changes, or both will mess up the speedometer.

Same is true with the late model RWD cars and trucks that use modern variants of the old TorqueFlights.
