Have an 02 Neon that is used as an emergency spare for me and my 2 step sons. Transmission in it is starting to go and I don't want to dump a bunch of money in it. Seems that if I stick with a a604 it has to be a 2002 model year only, and I don't have much hope of finding one at the local Picknpull (no 02s there at all in any condition) and the cheapest trans at a wrecker is $600.

So I was thinking of just finding a a413 from a 00 or 01 (lots at PnP) and grabbing what I need to do the swap (shifter, TV cable/bracket, and RH axle) and just leave the wiring for the trans stuff hanging. Will this work or am I missing something. I would assume the check engine light will stay on, but thats no biggie.

The other option is rebuild the a604. Ive done a413s but the 604 os more complicated. Anyone done one?

Overall the car is in decent shape, runs good, good tires/brakes etc. so I'd rather not scrap it.
