    factory engine oil cooler temps

I Finally got some data from my lancer on the factory 3.8l oil cooler installed on my 89 Lancer 2.2l . First of all the oil presser is so stable (couldn't be any more happerier) and this is with a oil pump that has some mileage and high rpm on it . the oil temp is quick to rise to operational temp and it keep the coolant to oil temps within 20 * running a 180 Tstat. im also running a big block filter and still have 2 " to my rad . and i run 15w40 year round -20 to 38*c and this motor doesn't get babied when driven.

So, what is the oil pressure and oil temps you are seeing? What are the coolant temps you are seeing?

Re: factory engine oil cooler temps

the oil guage never drops below half way on the guage
0mph 980rpm fans on coolant temp 212 oil temp 2oo-212*
    50mph 2800rpm fans off coolant temp 195 oil temp 190- 200*
(speed lets just not ask) 8500Rpm fans on coolant 220 oil temp 235* ( outside temp 80*) had it spike once to 240

note : without the oil cooler the oil pressure would drop and almost turn on the low pressure idlot lamp idling (980Rpm) hot with the under drive pulley

Nice info! I have had the same experience with the oil pressure dropping quite a bit without an oil cooler. I wouldn't think the oil pressure would be affected by the UDP since the pump is driven off of the timing belt. Interesting...

the water pump is driven off the Under drive not the oil pump this effect the whole cooling system at low rpm

I could be completely wrong, but with the oil cooler, the coolant temps won't affect the oil temp/pressure nearly as much as if it weren't there. You basically already said that, and proved it. I have noted the oil pressure being more steady with an oil cooler installed as well with and without a UDP on the engine.

I used to have one of those installed on the old engine from my 88 z. I think one side went to the water pump and the other side went to the thermostat housing.
