    Repairing Armrest

    Hey
I have a 1992 Daytona and I took the drivers door panel off. I removed the armrest and I want to repair it, on the front edge the foam has torn away from the plastic internal piece. When you pull on the door to close it there is no support on the corner of the pad anymore.
How do I go about fixing this.

Use two part epoxy and a strong fiber tape (or use cellophane wrap like rope and wrap it) to hold it while it cures.
Don't be afraid to pull more material away from the plastic in order to scuff the plastic for improved adhesion.
This is because the localized areas may already be weakened by what has already become separated.
Additionally, it may be necessary to remove a small amount of existing foam to get the covering back where it belongs because the foam expands, in some cases, which can be the reason the material separated in the first place.
Before applying the glue, do as many test fits as required, to insure everything will look good when your done.
Apply a liberal amount of glue and pull the tape at tight as possible to insure good adhesion.
When you remove the tape or cellophane the arm rest may be slightly deformed from the pressure but it will find its original shape in no time.

The above process was used to correct the arm rests on my Dodge 600 ES and it went from the pic on the left to the pic on the right when completed. (see pic)

It has been over a year with no indication of the issue returning.

    Hope this helps.
