Engine runs nice a quiet now that it's run through a couple heat cycles and pumped the lifters back up. It's a stock '95 roller cam engine now, just the exhaust and underdrive pulley on it. Hopefully we can figure out what's wrong with my flashable sbec and I can start tuning it soon. Once I get a good baseline stock engine tune, go-fast parts will start going back on

Re: Project LookOwt: Saving a piece of 3.0 history

Drove it about 30 miles or so this evening, went to a car meet. First question - "Is this a Conquest?"

Drives decent, has some issues though. Alternator doesn't charge at idle, not sure if it's the UD pulley, the battery or the alternator. Don't remember having that problem before the engine swap. Warped rotor, brakes are spongy even after adjusting the rear drums, wheel bearing noise from somewhere. Also makes a bad shake on takeoff, not sure if it's an axle or a wheel bearing, or a caliper dragging on a warped rotor. Idles super high when pulled into gear, but that's probably due to running a 5-spd computer, it didn't do it on my original auto computer (which is what I had the flash module installed in and now doesn't work). Alignment is slightly off but not too bad. Power steering has a leak somewhere.

On the bright side, it didn't run hot, and doesn't leak anything, and the trans shifts smoothly, and it will run 80mph on the hwy pretty easily.

Well, sounds like you'll be busy tying up those loose ends. But sounds successful!

Strong shaking on takeoff is usually an inner CV joint.

I'll have to check it out. Put about 70 miles on it today, leisurely drive up to Lake Lure and back. No power steering is a ----- on mountain switchbacks Also went a little over 3/4 on temp, right on the verge of overheating. Need to change out the t-stat probably, drop a 180 in it. Bled the brakes before leaving but they still aren't great. Trans seems to be working beautifully. Pretty sure the right front wheel bearing is bad though.

No silly facebook replies here I hope. I would think as long as you don't get over 220 degrees you are fine. If the fan can't cool you down, thats when you are in trouble. Otherwise its not "overheating"
Only problems I have ever had were all fan related. Even towing a 3.0 car with a 3.0 car up mountain passes that don't exist on the east coast. If airflow, then good.

I don't know what it's getting up to, tried to hook a scanner to it but 2 different ones read the data wrong, like they are looking at wrong addresses for the data. Wowzer is working on making MP Scan work for the V6 SBEC this week so hopefully I can use that.

Re: Project LookOwt: Saving a piece of 3.0 history

New computer was waiting for me when I got back from SDAC, proper '91 V6 auto computer, dropped it in and it fixed the high idle in gear. So there is definitely a difference in the auto and manual computers.

Wowzer has been working on making MpScan V6 compatible and is almost done, and threw in some disassembly also to help make MP Tune more compatible also! So hopefully Shelgame can get my flashable SBEC fixed and then I can start helping develop a good tune for the 3.0's, possibly even a Turbonator code.

Replaced the dp donut and fixed the small exhaust leak there. Got rear brakes to go on it today, and chasing the power steering leak.

Re: Project LookOwt: Saving a piece of 3.0 history

Power steering leak found and fixed, one of the hard lines on the rack had rusted and started leaking. Kinda random since nothing else on the car is rusted at all. Grabbed a line off a spare rack and got it installed. Brakes need a little more bleeding I think, may still need a master cyl. Shelgame seems to have found the issue with the flashable sbec and has it on the way back to me, and wowzer has the prototype V6 MPScan ready to try out. Almost time to start doing some serious tuning!

Excited for any and all changes. My FIC is cool but still requires Boost button help on the atoll calibration. Better to keep it all in the family or go full aftermarket if you can.
