They look cast to me. Even have the little arrows telling you which way to install. Couple numbers too I think.

Man, I hope the engine has the things it's supposed to have. One of the reasons I never got the car running was because I didn't like the work that people had done to it previously (Rick used shops to do the work). I will actually be mad if it doesn't!

Considering how bad some shops are now, I bet they could get away with a lot back when the internet was not the great exposer of frauds. I really wonder about those cylinder heads, plenum, and lower intake manifold. I thought the heads and lower intake were extrude honed etc etc etc. Wonder how much of a ride Rick was taken on by shops? Wonder about the valve size?

No, the heads and such were done by Tachyon Racing in Jacksonville (Supposedly). In the one picture you can see what looks like sanding marks in the intake port.

Heads do look like they've had some work done. I'll get closer pics of them also.

Here's what the pistons look like.

I checked a few years ago when I sold the car to Rob and it appeared at that point he was still at the same job as when I bought the car. I have tried to contact him a couple of times after my last actual interaction with him, but no luck. From everything I gathered when talking with him he was moving on to a different point in him life and seemed like he wanted to leave the past stuff in the past.

What pistons are those!? They look like they could worth with both the 4V and 2V heads. They certainly look cast, though. Nothing really wrong with that, but not what I would have expected. Tuning will be critical, just like using cast pistons and big boost.

Looks to me like the 4v reliefs were cast in, but the 2v reliefs were machined in. (ie. one large valve relief n the intake side. Connection of the 2 exhaust valves on the exhaust side. )

Looks like the edge of a carbon deposit.

Those are certainly not 10:1 pistons with a stock combustion chamber.
The pistons don't match the chamber either so I wouldn't push it as hard as a flat top or matching dish piston.

Its really amazing what a 3.0 can handle with some forged pistons and generous ring gaps. Stock pistons require being very gentle, even with mild ring gaps. Forged pistons and its very hard to hold a headgasket long enough to break something under extreme stress.

Well, more bad news...it isn't a stroker engine Checked the stroke last night, still the stock 3" stroke. Bore is ~3.610 vs the stock 3.59, so I'm assuming a .010 over bore.

Then when I rolled it over to remove the pan, I heard stuff falling inside....

I was like WTF is in my oil pan!? At least it is plastic, so nothing in the block got hurt... no idea what it was. Some kind of plastic tool or something maybe. How it ever got left in the oil pan is beyond me.

Also, appears to be stock rods and pistons. I am guessing that they bolted his top end onto a 10:1 DOHC bottom end.

WTF was that!? How could a shop send something like that out? That's infuriating.

Don't the rods look polished and blasted?

You're right. I thought that was a clearance notch, but looking closer it's jagged.

I got to thinking about what that plastic could be...what about a soft-blow hammer?
