unable to center engine for cv shaft plunge

This is on my Horizon. I have a good inch of plunge on the left side cv shaft and only about a half an inch on the right. The engine is all the way to the driver side as far as it will go. I loosened the k member mounts and tried to shift it over to see if that would help a bit but I didn't get much if any movement. Do I need to be concerned about this? Before I moved the engine all the way over I had to remove the a arm on passenger side to get cv shaft in and get the ball joint in the knuckle. I pulled the un-equal length setup out of a omni that was in the jy the shafts look like OE to me. I didn't think to compare the length of the new right side shaft to the old. any info appreciated.

Sounds like you have the wrong CV shaft in there. Common problem in l bodies from experience. I "might" have a spare passenger axle laying around that I took out of my parts cars. Will have to look and see. Both were 89's so it would be the large spline. I recall them not being in good shape but it would give you a answer if you have the right one or not. As stated let me look and find out.

Had the same issue with mine early in it's life. The passenger shaft was from a p-body or g-body and I had a hell if a time trying to get it centered. I got a passenger side shaft for a great deal and found the one in the car was too long.

Re: unable to center engine for cv shaft plunge

Does anyone have a l-body shaft that they could measure for me? This shaft did come out of an l-body I pulled it out of the junkyard myself. Thanks.
