Servo / Accumulator o-rings - Getting stuck in snap ring groove

I am assembling my transmission and i am having an issue with probabily the simplest part. I reassembled the servos and accumulator ( its blocked but put it together anyway) with new rings. I lubed up the parts with trans assembly lube and got all of the parts to drop in. I am having problems installing the "Caps" that hold them in (behind the snap ring). The front band and accululator "caps" have an o-ring. When I attempt to install them they get caught in the snap-ring groove and thats all I can get. I tried running a feeler gauge around them to try to get them to drop in like lip seals do but no luck. Does anyone have any tips on how to get these in? I have a piece of plastic paper protector I was going to try to use as a sleeve but I am not sure what else to try. The ATSG does not mention any special tools. Im stumped..

    Thanks,

    Justin

I'm not super familiar with what you're referring to, but, if all you need to do is "sneak" the O-ring past the grove, you might be able to make a sleeve from some thin sheet aluminum, the kind used for flashings on roofs (comes in rolls).

Just cut a piece long enough to go around the piston/plug (maybe even overlap a bit if it won't be too thick) and then use it kind of like a funnel. Once the O-ring is past the groove, pull the sleeve and BAM! your done!

I tried the sleeve and no luck, then while going through the kit for the 3rd time and I found 2 o-rings stuck in the axle seals which were the correct o-rings . The ones I was trying to use originally were just a little "fatter" then the originals. I put assembly lube on the rings and everything went together.

You're probably using the wrong o-rings. I've never had that problem.
