Rock auto has glass!

Ive heard that getting glass for some of cars is getting hard. Now, that may not be true. I do remember reading getting glass for L-bodys was next to impossible. Rock auto now has glass for both 2 and 4 door! Right around $100 a piece. They also list G and K body for that same price. I didn't check on shipping, but just thought I would pass the info on.

Just looked this up. He is right. I did shipping for me and they said for 4 door L body was 139 to my door. Awesome!!!!!!!!!

Is this for a windshield? I did notice they had door glasses listed the other day.

Yes for windshields, I didnt check door glass availability.

Sweet! They have door glass listed for Caravans at least (thats what I was looking at)

they probably bought up the last of the stock that was on the market. wasn't someone on here a glass dealer and said that there were a few windshields here and there for L-bodys but once they were gone, they were gone??

I'm curious as to the name brand listed. It seems like it alludes to "whatever brand we could find".

That was clocktowersniper, and yeah that's pretty much what he said. He is out of the glass business now though, at least for a while.

Only two 2 door "L" body windshields left as of this afternoon...

So there I was looking at the big box from Rock Auto that is sitting in my driveway, the anticipation mounts as I am carefully unwrapping my 2 new windshields for my Rampage. I open the box and see PPG stickers and get real excited, then I pull both of them out of the box. I lay them on a pile of foam I have for some packages I am sending out and what do I see...CRACKS!!!! Both virgin PPG beautiful windshields have been damaged in shipping because they weren't packaged correctly. Don't get me wrong the packaging seemed pretty robust, but I think the box was just a bit too small, so if anything impacted one of the sides, the box would give a bit, right into the glass inside...

Rock Auto is great, they are refunding my money, but the last of the windshields are gone and I still don't have one for my car.Hopefully RA can locate some more windshields in the future...

How has everyone else faired with your windshields?

That just sucks.
Windshields are just to fragile for UPS and FEDEX.

i'm gonna have to check RockAuto. i need a new windshield for my 86 K wagon. did a search on parts voice using the factory part numbers and all i could find was plain glass, not even tinted. seems stupid to spend $300 (plus shipping) on a part that has been collecting dust for twenty years....and that's for non tinted!

I would guess you get the glass, all of the moldings are trim pieces added after the windshield is installed.

So that explains why there were no more 2 door L body windshields available. So I ordered one for my 4 door GLHS. Big box on my porch today too Opened it up, packed well Lotsa styrofoam peanuts Tinted at the top but alas, cheap chinese glass

As for the glass, as long as it meets the safety standards I don't see an issue. Yes, I know there can be different formulations of glass so some can be more resilient against chipping or cracking, but if you NEED new glass beggars can't be choosers at this point (unfortunately). It really does suck that now glass is becoming obsolete and there are no companies willing to step up to even make more! Soon we'll have to be like the antique car guys and have custom glass made $$$$!!!
