    62 srt4 dodge lancer

ok this is my personal project. i shortened the body 18 inches to make it a two seater. originally i was going to put a modern 5.7 hemi in her. but some time last year fuel prices got to me and i put that vision aside. now my direction will be a rearwheel drive srt4. the cylinder head i use will enable me to run my intake on the passenger side and face forward aswell. with the turbo up front on the drivers side.

i will edit my parts list as i progress

    JEEP LIBERTY BELLHOUSING
MA5 5 SPEED TRANSMISSION (from chevy colorado)
    05 SRT4 2.4 ENGINE
    420A ECLIPSE CYLINDER HEAD
    JEEP LIBERTY FLYWHEEL

just wondering, because i cant see the pics either, what was the reason for shortening the body?

and why did you want to run the 420 head? again, just wondering, because i didnt think they "bolted" onto the "srt" 2.4? i would personally want the turbo on the pass side for exhaust and steering rack purposes...

The 420A head fits, just have to reverse the pistons on the rods.

    OP:

I never was a big fan of that body style, but definitely a cool project.

Are the pins on the pistons offset to account for thrust? Bitchin' project I love the old stuff.

Good question.... rotate the pistons(the rod ends are directional). The wrist pins are held in by a c-clip(stock srt internals) and the pistons are a full floating design. Its a matter of a few minutes to flip the pistons around on the stock rods. For those wondering why...its because the intake and exhaust valves are inverted on the 420a head vs the DOHC or 2.4l head(KZE)

    Re: 62 srt4 dodge lancer

i shortened it for a shorter wheelbase. and to rid myself of the back seat. kind of like what dodge should have built to run with the corvette and t-bird of that era. This is a 62 lancer, rear wheel drive. it does not have a steering rack. not yet anyway. With the 420a the intake sit on the passenger side, facing the throttle body forward. the turbo-fold on the drivers side. turbo is up front, and exhaust exits out the back on the original side When i install the 420a i will do a write up on it. i will have to plug one oil passage, and re-drill it to size for the 2.4. .So you really can't see the pictures? I can on my screen. Can someone tell me what i am doing wrong. Is there a post count requirement before i can post pictures?

i meant steering shaft, i figured it "might" be in the way of the downpipe, but i havent seen under the hood of one before? and i think it would be less work to run the srt head on an srt block, but go for it dude, sounds really cool!

so here we are. the hood is actually two hoods. i grafted the outer skin of a 70's barracuda to the lancer hood. although because i was so focused on the operation i failed to get pictures of the procedure ( hmmm maybe i should do it again). then i have the doors looking great aswell.

I found. The bellhousing on eBay. But try car-part.com. they always seem to have what I want. The if you call your local salvage yard. And they tell you they can't get you just tell them who has it and they'll get it from them

That sucks, I am seriously contemplating shortening my van, but I am thinking I will use a grand caravan back end that is longer, to make it look more even

basically what i can tell you is. i cut it through the rockers and ahead of the unibody rear rails. so it was all just a sheet metal cut. when i get it up on the rotisarrie you'll see what i mean.
