Gauging interest in 3-point L-body strut tower bar

I've been working on a strut tower bar for the L-body. Since Mike Wah's #168 GLHS was here in the shop we decided to make a 3-point strut tower bar for it. So I've decided to gauge interest for a run of these.

Material for the bar is 3/4" 4130, and the mounting points are 1" 4130. The bar uses the stock rear strut mounting studs and will require drilling of 2 holes on the strut tower and 2 holes on the firewall. Those using Rich Bryants camber plates will not need to drill the strut tower only the firewall if desired.

Introductory price will be $225. The bar will come with necessary hardware for mounting at the firewall and the strut towers. Powdercoating is an option, but I will need to get pricing/colors available.

Pics below are on Mike Wah's car using a modified intake and on a 87 GLHS using a stock 2 piece.

    Looks great.

How much impact do you think it will have for straght line traction, keeping the chassis from twisting?

The A/C lines are not affected with this bar.

Any form of racing will cause the body to flex, but I think with drag racing it is not as exaggerated as it is in road racing/autocross. That said, I do run a strut tower bar on my car.

Also as an option, those not wanting/needing the firewall attachment point, the strut bar will be $185.

I'm interested. The ends look rather high though - any interference with closing of the hood? What about the under hood vent?

They may look high, but they are well out of they way of the hood. In fact the adjuster for the koni's is higher. The underhood vent on the 87 GLHS I have here clears just fine.

Maybe I should have said under hood drip tray - do the GLHS's have them or is it a vent only? I know when running a 2 piece intake on the SC's you need to cut them out.

The 87 glhs clears with this tray.

I will make 5 pieces to start and see if there is any more interest. Thanks!

Very nice! Thought about making a bar for years, never got around to it. Very little room to mess around on the L-bodies

Not sure what they did on the 87 GLHS's to clear the 2 piece intakes, but that tray does not look like a normal power bulge Shelby Charger tray. Maybe just the angle?

On 86 and 87 GLHS's the hood vent drip tray would not clear the added 2 piece intake. So instead of making a new drip tray, they just cut the old one out of the hood and blocked off the vent, as seen in Brian's pic.

Yeh that tray sits rather low. Someone will have to do a test fit to confirm if there is enough clearance on the non GLHS Chargers which have the drip tray.

The drip tray on an '86 g-body won't work with a 2-piece either. It was already in my plans to unbolt the tray in my Daytona. But the blockoff in the GLHS is interesting (sorry, I don't know that much about the l-body cars at all)

On the L bodies I don't think it will even "unbolt". I think it needs to be cut.
