Re: Best DIY code scanner for personal use?

I'm hoping to get something that will do my TD and still be useful on OBD2

I was wondering if anyone would suggest an Actron

I've actually never used a scanner other than trying out a friend's Innova.

I'd like to be able to scan ABS as well. Is there one machine that will do this I can watch for on Ebay or am I getting too specific, far reaching and too cheap?

For 90s Chrysler ABS there's almost no public service information... I often wonder if they dealers can actually fix it either.... if anything can do anything with it, it will be the DRB II and nothing else.
DD1: '02 T&C Ltd, 3.8 AWD. DD2: '15 Versa Note SV, replacing.. DDx: '14 Versa Note SV << freshly killded :( ....... Projects: '88 Voyager 3.0, Auto with shift kit, timing advance, walker sound FX muffler on 15" pumpers wrapped in 215/65/R15 H rated Nexens.... and a '95 phord escort wagon PnP head << Both may need to go :( ..... I like 3.0s ... so??? ... stop looking at me like I've got two heads!

The Mitchell gave me a procedure for the 90 Dakota where I jump 2 pins on a connector behind the passenger kick panel to get the codes via the ABS light just like the KOKO CEL.

For OBD 2 stuff. I just purchased a cheap 15 dollar Bluetooth which plugs in and send info to Android phone using an app called Torque. Can't wait to try it out

Torque works great for codes. Even links to interweb for generic code explanations and troubleshooting guide.
Bluetooth works less great for datalogging but it is still capable just slower refresh rate. You can even set up a gauge console in torque or a heads up display for use at night.

I use torque with my OBD-ll cars. Works great. I got one of the better adapters so I can't say how well the cheaper ones work. The 0-60 and 0-100 and 1/4 mile readings are not very accurate, though. Everything else works well once setup.

I bought one of the Chinese bluetooth OBDII scanners and it works well. Never any problems with it, and it was inexpensive.

I'm using mine with an Android (2.2).
Torque will datalog but bluetooth is slower refresh than a cable. You might miss something.
The Bluetooth adapter dongle for the OBDII plug wasn't that expensive. But the Torque apparently on the Android market does give a description and had a recommended Bluetooth dongle.

I haven't data logged with it. I use an Android, specifically a Droid X2. There is a lot of stuff you can do that I haven't even scratched the surface. I was checking stuff out on my cruze that last time I used it. Then winter showed up.
