non TM air seperation tank for coolant

ok so this is on my 92 300 l6 f150 i put 2 head gaskets in it and had the head surfaced and pressure tested still blowing air into my coolant... (nothing else is mixing)

so i guess i have a cracked block or block deck issue... shame it all looked nice

anyway i was thinking about putting a tank into the heater core supply with the heater core side lower than the engine side to let teh air rise out

which brings me to my bleeder valve problem rad cap necks are pretty expensive so i was thinking about using a grainger valve mounted in the top to bleed the excess air into the overflow tank

should work right? pretty simple and easy i thought id use a fire extinguisher for a tank

and i know this is pursuing the problem in the wrong direction but its got 150k on it and i think ill make another 75k easy on the thing since it runs pretty well haha plus the whole idc thing at this point

If you're looking for a cheap band-aid, there are air purge valves for water pipes. Check the plumbing section of your local hardware store. Since they come in different diameters, you might be able to get one that fits your upper radiator hose. Just a thought.

thats a good idea i could screw a tee onto it and a shortish peice of pipe pointing straight down and that would be the drain to the heater core or rad

i think it would be best in the heater core since that circulates all the time maybe i should put a tee in my top rad hose to drain the air

haha mike your idea is great they are even meant for glycol systems!

I can't see how you're NOT getting anything else mixing... run it nice and hot one day and it will probably fill a cylinder with coolant. Probably only minor spray at the moment which isn't enough to stop it starting and/or evaporates off... Or it's possible at the moment it only sucks back from the gas bubble it makes at the top of the head, find ways to remove that and then it's sucking coolant in the cylinder.

If I was wanting to drive it for another few thousand, I'd stick "bars leaks" in it... have had that stuff last 3 or 4 years, before cars expired for other reasons. I know some people hate on it, but it works great if directions are followed, and gets bad rap overspill from some generic sealers that don't work half as well.

If you still want to try your original plan, the "overflow/expansion" tanks from the Crown Vic, etc splice into the lower rad hose in their OE application, might be just the ticket...

Re: non TM air seperation tank for coolant

i was working on my buddies like idk 70-80 ish chevy dump and it has a big cylinder just to do this... you can tell because it has a fitting in the highest part of the rad going into the top of this tank it also goes into where the heater core come out of the intake like they put a tee there and the heater core hose is on the side and the hose to the seperation tank is straight up it has the rad cap on this tank and theres a drain hose on the lowest spot going back to the rad

im pretty positive that they designed the thing to be able to boil the coolant right out of the motor and still function...

yes i know my problem is different haha

Think that's a major component of the bars leaks.
