    Fuel injector heat shield/log manifold

I am about to bolt the manifolds onto my engine. I have a 1986 Shelby Charger and I am re-building it back to completely stock specs, log manifold and all. Anyway, there is a heat shield below the fuel injectors/rail and it is destroyed on my car. Is this needed or is there another option as I am sure they are probably not made anymore. Any input is appreciated.

I would defiantly reinstall one if possible. There is a whole lot of heat coming off of the turbo and the logs don't have much to insulate the wiring and fuel lines.

Might have a good used one and possibly a NOS one, Id have to do some diggin. LMK if you can't find one. Yeah your gonna want a shield of some sort on there. I also wrapped up my fuel line insulating that too on my 85 GLHT. Seemed to keep fuel rail much cooler. They had a recall on the positioning of the FPR. The recalled one was angled away from turbo a bit more than original.

I would definitely take a good used or NOS piece. There are not a lot of these cars or good junkyards here around me and I don't want to spend much time fabricating one as I just want the original engine in and running so I can work the bugs out of the whole car. I have a second engine I plan to build up for a T2 swap after the car is running and driving again, it's been sitting since 2000!

Hey Rattfink, Tore garage and attic apart looking for the couple log heat shields I have. I must have them in my shed packed away with other log manifold parts. It's buried and I will be unable to dig it out until Spring. I know I have a couple nice ones though if you can wait.

If you cannot get a good used or NOS part, another option is to use fabric heat shield and apply it to to the original metal piece. You can get it at autoparts stores it has a adhesive backing so it makes it easy.

I did that once too, and riveted some sheet aluminum to it to cover replace the original stuff. It didn't look great, but it was solid.

If you really cant find one I just threw one away, as in its still in the trash bag. if you need it send me a message and just pay for shipping. Its not perfect but its its in good enough shape to bolt on and use.

I made one recently for mine.I used about an 1/8th inch thick aluminum and riveted on L brackets.I made it a little bigger and made a 45 degree cut on rear corner to take off some to clear wastegate can.It looks alot better than the stock one.

I think I am going to go this route and call it a day. Sounds easy enough.
