What rotors + pads for SLH Omni Turbo?

Hey everyone, its been a long time coming but.......

I FINALLY HAVE MY OMNI BACK!!!!

I will post a new thread sometime later about its new life with a fully built engine, in the meantime, I need help with stopping

I have all the peices needed to convert my '86 GLH to the all disc braking system. The 60mm calipers from a turbo van, all the rear brakes from an 89 daytona shelby with the correct parking brake system and all. Even have the stamped 4 prop valve/master cylider stuff I need. What my question is now, what pads and rotors will I need to get from autozone/oreillys/etc for the rear? Ive read 95-99 Neons will have identical rotors but i need a spacer of sorts. Help me outz guyz? I cant break her in and get her out on the road until she can stop all the way lol

Get the 11" brakes for an 89' Daytona Shelby. Make sure they say that they're for the Shelby though as otherwise they'll be the wrong ones. I picked some up off of rockauto.com and paid less for pads and rotors on all four corners than for two rotors from AZ or the equivalent.

The 89' Daytona Shelby came with 11" rotors on all four corners.

are you using caravan front calipers or 89 daytona? if caravan, the use the 10.25 rotors and the caravan pads. If 89 caliper and brackets then 11 inch

If your staying 10" in the front, then dont' put 11"s in the rear, I would put 10" solid rears.

Re: What rotors + pads for SLH Omni Turbo?

For the front brakes I have the 60mm calipers from a turbo van

For the rear brakes I have all the components from an '89 Daytona Shelby, the 33mm pistons.

To move the fluid I have the 24mm Master Cylinder and prop valve from the same '89 Daytona Shelby.

According to dempsey, I use the stock Omni GLH front rotors with the 60mm calipers. Brake pads would be the stock ones used for the minivan for the front? I'm not sure which rear rotors to order. Simon says 10" solids but from what car? I'm most likely gonna order this tonight and get it installed on Monday through Friday. Thinking of making a video as well

Re: What rotors + pads for SLH Omni Turbo?

If you really have the `89 Shelby Daytona rear disk brake conversion, you should have 36mm pistons instead of 33mm.
36mm goes with the 11" rear vented disk which was OEM on the 89-90 Shelby Daytona.

According to the net, because I never tried it, you should not run the 11" set-up in the back if you are running the 10" in the front especially in a L-body chassis.
My thought on that...you can play with the compound, the pressure to dial any bad effect that could be related with the big disk conversion in the back.

Here are the parts I have in the box in the back of the car. The link provided is to the rear rotors I found on RockAuto. Are they the correct ones?http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/more...089&cc=1089367

While I have Caravan fronts and 11" rears on my black omni and like it the others are right when they say it's not ideal. If it's wet out the rears WILL lock up early and make the back want to come around on you. You'll need to double or triple your stopping distance for safety it can be so bad.

^ sounds like something that needs to be addressed? lol

My Omni right now, according to what I was told from FWD, is making 278@17psi right now and can go up to 29psi. I wont ever go that high but for that much power, I need to be able to stop lol

The main problem is the DOT legal autocross tires which are on it. They stop like crazy when warm and dry. Not quite as much when wet and cold. It's still not a good combination over all though. For my blue car I'm going to run the later knuckles and 11" brakes.

Re: What rotors + pads for SLH Omni Turbo?

I got to tinker with the front calipers from the minivan and realized they were total garbage. I went ahead and took one of the front minivan calipers and one of the rear daytona calipers to autozone to get reman calipers with core charges. They said they should be in between tuesday or thursday. I kept one of the front minivan calipers and one daytona caliper for comparison when they do get in, that way if theyre the same I can turn in my last two calipers for the remans and get my core charges back.

I would run the solid discs in the rear, can get them from any 89-up car w/ the small discs in the back. They are easy to tell apart from the vented rotors, because they are solid w/ no vent space between the friction surfaces. Just a 5/16"? solid rotor.

Lol yeah that was me, i should be getting the brakes on sometime soon. The front calipers should bolt right up to the existing mounts correct? Like where the original omni fronts are
