Man I could do my whole house in LED for that.
I want to see a pic of the beam pattern 1st.
Yah, deals off if they don't make your light penis really fat and long.

I'll wait for the car stuff to get down to prices like this...
Eh, 7W for 25W worth of light... methinks I'll stick with the "curly bulbs" for now... 9W=40W 13W=60W at a buck per if you buy a dozen pack on sale.
Curly isn't an option for cars though, but yah, prices need to come down. Efficiency needs to be better too, there's too much lost in 120V conversion in those household ones methinks. Car wiring shouldn't be so bad. I've got a small collection of dead cheapy LED flashlights, gotta be 10 good LEDs in there so I'm gonna make up a substitute bulb for the courtesy lamp out of them..
But for headlamps, it ain't really about efficiency, it's about how they penetrate the dusky loins of the night.

I don't know how they get those brightness stats. I put a bunch of 8 watt dimmable LED's in my parents pad since they skipped CFL's. Its pretty close in brightness to the old 60w incandescent bulbs they had.. jives with the reviews on that 7w in the link. It cut their light usage down from 1200 watts to like 150 watts. It really shows in the bills and they will pay for themselves pretty quick.
I run curblies at my pad too. My main gripe with them is I wish they would last 7 years like the package says they do.
when they figure out how to soft start them they just might last that long. We use them at work for temp lighting now. can put 70 bulbs on a 120 V 20 amp circiut instead of ten!!!!!

And as far as 250 dollars a piece. I could finish my engine for 500 dollars and be out running my headlights!!!lol Maybe 250 for a set if they really work a lot better than what we use now.
Want!
Beam pattern is the most important part. Brightness is just under that.
here are the 7in round LED ones

This is what I am going with, IPF or Hella E code H4 housings with 80/100 bulbs, much cheaper and still decent. Stock h6054 on right.

skip the 80/100 bulbs and make sure the headlights are relayed. I throw tons of light with just the 55/60w stock bulbs. More light that just about all the HID cars out there. Power too the bulb is everything when it comes to actual light output, Beam pattern before that because you need to throw that light where it needs to go.
I'd say the Hella's on the left look like the free form reflectors as they don't have quite the sharp cut off the glass reflectors have.
I am going to the junkyard Sunday to pick up waterproof relays for that exact project. Going to relay the stockers first even though I've only measured a .1v drop at the lights.
The reason for going with 80/100's is I live in an extreme rural area with lots of deer, so the farther/wider I can see, the better.

Would those 7" round even fit on a car? I was thinking about doing 7" rounds along with a PS cooler on my van. You can find rounds even larger than 7, which are also H4 iirc. Would look different, a while back I did quick shop with I think dempeys van.
