Well looks like I'll hit the junkyard on the way home. Saw 2 8v cars there last week one with a blown trans so ill pull lifters from it.

I've run into a similar problem that was a weak exhaust valve spring. O.K. cold but lost tension when warm.

    Thanks

Thanks I do appreciate the help. I did diagnose that it was a lifter just forgot to post about it. This isn't quite my first rodeo just my first on a 8v car.

Re: Misfire at idle and cruise

It's an educated guess at this point since I kept messing with the timing light getting nowhere. Did adjust the timing. It misses at idle and cruise, but not when I idle it up in gear or at WOT. Got pissed yesterday when it was bucking while driving so I floored it and ran it out through 2nd gear. It stopped missing for a minute then came back. I've never heard of a lifter bleeding down when warm but it must be because of the oil pressure. I have a compression tester to use now but with the cold, no garage and family issues this isn't leaving me much time to mess with it. I'll run the compression test tomorrow, wet and dry. Is there a flood clear on these like the neon where if you go WOT during cranking it turns off the injectors? Or do I need to pull a fuse or relay?

My apologies if I got you all hot n bothered just hadn't ever happened to me like this. I killed a set of lifters in my sohc neon with the .400" lift cam but they only made noise and acted funny when cold. Once warmed up they worked fine.

Even if you have 4 psi of oil pressure, that's enough to keep them pumped up.

Unplug the HEP or ASD relay, will kill spark and fuel. Still need to get a vacuum gauge, my last post on that.

I haven't messed with the car other than adjusting the timing at this point, didnt have time for the junkyard testerday. Ill see if harbor freight has a cheap enough vac gauge to check with, don't know anyone that has one.

Autozone rents vac pumps that work as vac gauges. 19 in/hg but during the misfire it jumps down. Wasn't acting to terrible today though so it was once in a while, not steady as it was when I took that video.

It would jump down to 15-17 inches

And stay steady or jump? That doesn't sound like a mechanical issue.

No it doesn't stay steady. Only when the miss happens is when the vac is lower. After that it returns to 19.

I know you changed plug wires, but did you change the coil wire as well? Have you inspected the coil. I know it may seem isolated to cylinder 4, but it could be all across the board. Time to start ruling out possibilities.

Re: Misfire at idle and cruise

I did do the coil wire as well. I guess I could swap the coil from my car to my van to see if it follows it.
