    Re: The Contraption 2013-14

Eh, there is not much to photograph yet. Havent started taking things apart as I need things to be mobile for now.

I have a question tho. If I went with megasquirt, what elements of the vehicle's engine compartment wiring would need to be retained? Should I search out a wiring harness for a carb'd or TBI Lbody? I'd rather not cut up my S60 harness.

Yes that would be a good idea. When you buy the mega squirt you can buy the harness too and injector connectors and coolant and charge temp connectors and sensors. They are cheap at dyi auto tune. Tell them you want one with the 4 bar map installed too.
I'm selling the unit I had in my rampage if your interested in a ms2 extra

Like Dean said, just make a new harness. The only factory stuff I kept had to do with lights, horn, etc. Was your Rampage engine an SRT4 or Stratus? I can't remember if the crank trigger hardware is the same between the two.

A good area to read is the neons.org tuning - megasquirt section. Lots of threads about people using them and lots of support there.

Thanks, guys. Perhaps I can use the harness from my '83 Rampage, and swap all the 2.2 stuff over to it.

I have a ( sold to me as complete and in working order) turbo minivan harness. I was going to use it on the 87 S but as hou know that car resides in another garage now. Good price for a good cause if it can work with your build lmk.

Thanks, Mike. But I'd hate to cut up a harness that would still be useful to you or a potential buyer. Looks like I would just need a bare bones harness to run lighting and stuff. Build the rest for engine management.

I found the blade contacts that fit the bulkhead connector on the firewall at NAPA and bought a cheap universal hot rod harness for the wire, worked out great and didn't have to cut up a stock harness, ran relays for the headlights and got rid of the fusible links, win win win.

If you find one without much trouble, that would be cool. Thanks!

Spending my lunch hour browsing other's plogs for inspiration. From Carroll's thread.

If you use Carol's thread as inspiration you're never going to get done.

As an aside I've been looking at MS2 vs MS3 and I think there will be a change in the future for me. MS3 is really coming out with some nice options. More available inputs, outputs, controls......etc. and the MS3X board really makes things less DIY than it has been in the past.

    Re: The Contraption 2013-14

Yeah I'm thinking I may go that route.

I figure I would need a few hundred bucks worth of stuff just to run the side mounted distributor to keep SMEC electronics. Subtract that from the price of the MS3 and it is getting to be even more affordable.

I've held off on standalone myself for quite some time, but even I'm going down the MS path for my Shadow. Not exactly in my comfort zone but I really feel that it will be worth it once I get myself up to speed. Maybe we can help each other out on this one.

    Awesome!

Yes, I certainly do not want to appear over-confident, but I feel better off knowing that I could learn to tune my own car. I've been very lucky with cals, in recent years, but this combo will be a new ballgame.
