Arrow Best way to run Intercooler Piping on 89 Voyager?/ Intercooler Choice?

    Hey Guys,

I am going to put an intercooler on my 89 voyager. Not quite sure what kind yet but it has to be rather small due to wanting to keep the A/C. It will be mounted in front of the radiator and I do not want to to protrude much out of the bottom from the metal front bumper.

This is the best I have come up with:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/CXRacing-Uni...1a9bc8&vxp=mtr

Anyways, Where are the best spots to route the 2 pipes from the intercooler on the van? I want to run them to the right (when facing the front) of the radiator somewhere. Would moving the radiator over a little be the best bet? I will be using 2.5" intercooler piping.

And what do you guys think of the intercooler?

    Thanks,
    -Jefo

    What's your goals? Setup? Boost?

That should be ok for a low boost engine. I put my first one in front of the rad, ran the pipes beside the rad, drivers side and had cut out some sheet metal.

Re: Best way to run Intercooler Piping on 89 Voyager?/ Intercooler Choice?

Right now I am at 13psi un-intercooled, stock intake, and 3" downpipe with cutout (creeps bad when open). stock mitsubishi. And yes I have a/c and plan on keeping it, but the a/c core sticks out far and there is no room in front of it for an intercooler.

My plan is to get the van to the mid 14's(or better) with the mitsubishi. We will see how far I can get on 14psi before I get a computer, injectors, and map sensor.

I know you kept the a/c, what is your intercooler setup/ how did you run the pipes? Do you have any pics?

And any recommendations for an intercooler with A/C? I looked at the 600hp water to air from frozen boost but I don't think it would fit between the throttle body and radiator with a bov. And I like the simplicity of a A/A when its installed.

Considering you can mount an old mx6/probe intercooler in a van pretty easily (i think thats the one that Simon is talking about) i would look at those and look for intercoolers with a similar layout. Even the probe cooler would be slightly better than none, but it would be much better if it was 25 or 30% bigger and had bigger 2.25" pipes on it.

My first IC was a RX7 turbo II, then moved the a/c around and went to a custom core.

Re: Best way to run Intercooler Piping on 89 Voyager?/ Intercooler Choice?

I would want to put one like this on, but it would stick out below the metal bumper a bit. In fact all the way to the plastic spoiler on the bottom.

    I
think any oem intercooler from a small car would be too restrictive for my van, but yes they look a lot easier to mount up.

switching to a parallel flow a/c condenser could 1.) allow you space to have a larger intercooler across both the condenser and radiator, and 2.) increase condensing efficiency

then you could size an intercooler for the grill opening. You may as well get an efficient intercooler now if you intend to further.

Where can I get a parallel flow a/c condenser with the same dimensions (length and width) as the oem piece? I was unaware of this option, but it sounds good. As you said this will allow me to use a big fmic retaining the a/c.

Also, what is the easiest way to shorten the rad hoses so I can move the radiator over and inch or 2?

    This: http://www.frozenboost.com/product_i...14d9411cf5c84c

Looks like this in a van: http://www.pnw-sdac.org/gallery/v/Me...s/WaterAir+IC/

Retain the AC, no cutting. DONE! Best Van IC by far.

I like that setup, but my concern is there is no spot to put a blow off valve. But I do see you had one custom welded on. Who welded the mount on?

Re: Best way to run Intercooler Piping on 89 Voyager?/ Intercooler Choice?

I ended up getting the intercooler I first posted for lack of fabrication install time I have over christmas break, so if I plan to upgrade or remove the a/c I'll get a new ic.

Check out this bad boy intercooler I found. Way too big for a turbo dodge, but pretty cool.

I installed the intercooler in front of the rad with 2.5" piping. I am getting around 1psi of pressure drop. It has a noticeable gain in power, and will roast both tires at the end of 2nd at a standstill.
