    It won't build boost

First of all my setup is a T2 2.2 in a daytona with an automatic. Mods are s60 turbo, taft s2 cam, front mount, 2.5 exhaust with a cat and no muffler. Heres the problem. I have been driving it around for a while now and sometimes it wont build boost from a stop even if I power brake for a while. Well tonight I decide to go to the track and the car just wouldnt build boost. It wouldnt even spin the tires in the bleach box. At the light it would sound like it was starting to spool but it never got there, it went to like 2psi and just stayed there. Once I left the lights it would start to build boost then it would all at once wake up and start hauling. I pulled into the pits to play around with the car and when I floored it while power braking it wouldnt spool but if I would let off the gas just a little it would spool right up. Have any ideas what it could be?

Wait let me get this straight, you power brake it and it builds 2psi. But if you power brake it at part throttle it builds boost? If that's the case you are far too rich, back the fuel down.

If not, well we're gonna need to know more. Did you just put the head on? Adjust the timing any time soon? Sounds like the cam is either too far advanced/retarded (forget which it is that builds boost quick but looses top end, think it's advanced that does that).

Anyways you could have my problem... a bad torque converter. Check your
    tranny fluid. Dark any?

    Hope that helps,
    -Bryan

I dont know if I would back the fuel down or suggest a bad TQ... no where enough information.... need to go a little more basic.

My first thoughts... check the wastegate? did an intercooler line blow off? is there a large leak in your intercooler? what does the rpm do when you brake torque or run it thru to the redline?

I checked for leaks there are none. I have it set at 14 psi, it will jump to 14 psi and stay there. I dont think I'm that rich it doesnt smoke black at all. How can I check for bad torque converter?

Tell us what size tires you are running, which running gear you have in your tranny (optional), and what your rpm/speedo do. So what does your RPM say while doing a brake stand, where is it at 20mph, 40mph, and 60mph? What do you start building boost in the rpm range, and where do you get your max boost (14ps) at?

I would love to be able to tell you what the car is doing at different rpms but the stock tach sticks around 2000 rpm then jumps up to 4500 rpms. When I do the brake stand it does take a very long time for the rpms to come up. When I'm driving if I downshift the rpms jump up real quick and the car flys.

Triple check your cam timing, retarded cam timing does exactly what your describing. If not, it could be a TC related issue. You need to get a decent tach in there so you can see what rpm it builds boost.

Ok I will try to advance the cam timing. I have an adjustable cam gear, do I need to rotate it towards the firewall or towards the radiator?

Is the ECU controlling boost or are you using a MBC?

    Re: It won't build boost

Actually, I just thought of something. My cam is installed one tooth advanced, that is forward or clockwise. It I install it straight up, it acts like your car. I am running the S2 also. I would advance it all the way forward, thats like one tooth and a bit and I guarantee she'll burn the hides off. If so, than line up all your marks, remove the cam bolt, slide off the cam gear, put the cam gear back on and move one tooth forward then remove gear, install belt and slide back on. Then play with advancing the cam. I have mine like that and another 2 deg's but I have the Stage III turbine.
