ok only smart people for this one!! 2.5 harness and comp adapted to a mg midget 4 ban

ok so i got a 66 mg midget and i got a complete wiring harness and comp from a turbo daytona iroc the plan is to mod the dist from the dodge to fit the mg and build a custom intake to use the duel throttle bodies from a intrepid my real hang up is the injectors mg only has 2 intake ports and 4 injectors i feel will be to much fuel for the 1000cc motor, any tips? and yes in will be turbocharged. the problem is the harness set up is from a 92 so it's not a batch fire fuel system 91 i could have just removed 2 injectors it would have ran fine,so lets get this going guys hit me with your thoughts on this

In all reality, you may have to do just that. Mounting would be a pain I'm sure.

Haven't looked into it, but an option might be to find some way of fooling the computer into thinking the 2 unused injectors are still there. Maybe you can find/make some sort of resistor that will plug into the injector plug, similar to a noid light, something that simulates the resistance of an injector.

If it has the same 1-3-4-2 firing order a a 2.2L then can you just weld 4 injector bungs pointing at the appropriate ports as close to the head as possible?

Okay, the later A-series engines, (A plus) wanna say about '80 up, had an "electronic ignition" distributor that should be more compatible with TM electronics. Also you'd probably be better off starting with a 1275cc block/heads... so you could order up a 1275 A-plus lump fully dressed from UK and use that. There's some UK specialists might have one "on the shelf" as it were over here already...

From '83 to '89 in the UK there was a turbo application from the MG Metro Turbo... dunno how much luck or moolah you need to get one of those in good shape these days... these have been taken off the road and crushed quicker than TMs..

Oh the intake, you might find an injection manifold looking on UK mini tuning sites.

Oh IIRC the A-plus dizzy had an optical sensor rather than hall effect, not sure how different the signal is.

Might be able to order it off Rockauto, if you turn on Euro and look under 80s Austin Metro, Maestro.

14 or 15lb injectors shouldn't be too bad with a tune, is that a high impedance SBEC? if it is, then just get 91-95 Ford Escort injectors, Hi-Z, 14lb.

Search for a member named Holley. He is in the UK and used to be a TM fan. Search on TD also. He might have ideas.

There's only 2 intake ports on his head, splits to each cyl after the intake. He could try 2 bungs in each runner, but that would make a crazy fuel rail design to work well.

If it was me, I'd swap the whole engine

There's custom manifolds with de-siamesing inserts (combined with headwork) or there's...

I understand there are only two intake ports, but if the injectors fire at the correct time, that shouldn't matter as only one head port is sucking at a time.

I would use 4 injectors but use smaller ones and tune for them. If you socket the computer and use MPTune you can tune for the smaller injectors.

You'd have to trick the computer if you want to run 2 injectors but really why? Tons of options for injectors plus tuning, the sky is the limit.

Yah, the 2 injector thing would only work for the early electronics because the pair fires twice as often, unless you figure how to route 2 injector signals to one injector, which will screw up when injector goes high duty cycle... because if you just deleted 2 injectors, the first cyl to suck would get all the fuel...

If that's the case, and the engine is a 1342 firing order, then run 1and2 and 3and4 together (from the injector harness) and then when the injector fires only the open cylinder gets the fuel. So when injector 1 fires it only cylinder 1 is open and when injector 2 fires only cylinder 2 is open.

Re: ok only smart people for this one!! 2.5 harness and comp adapted to a mg midget 4

If you ran a batch-fire computer, you could simply run two injectors sized to flow 2X the normal flow rate. Ideally a split cone style to spray down each side of the port. In batch-fire mode, the injector is fired 2x, once when the valve is open and once when it is closed, so I doubt it would create any issues, though it might set a code for the "missing" injectors. When adjusting the cal, you could turn off the light for the specific codes, so not even an annoying "check engine light".

The biggest tuning issue would be adjusting the PumpEff to match the much smaller engine... If you could make it fit, I'd swap in the whole engine/controls... building mounts would be much simpler than re-engineering the system to fit a different engine, not that it couldn't be fun...

Well he'd be fine with the normal sized TD injectors because the motor is half the size.
